the rest of the day was just as annoying as the first class. people constantly telling her to get out of their seat, teachers making her stand up and introduce herself.
to make matters worse, the asshole from english was in her math, history, and econ class. ryan sort of figured he was popular when everyone kept saying hi and trying to get his attention.
"hi ryan, i'm austin" the boy grinned from ear to ear.
"hi"
"i live next to you actually, my mom was talking to your dad and it looks like we'll be riding to school together everyday" a smile still plastered on his face.
"wow i'm so excited" ryan said coldly.
"awesome, well after this class we have lunch so if you wanna sit with me and my friends you're more than welcome to" he offered.
ryan nodded. at this rate she needed some safety net. austin didn't seem like a bad guy with any sort of intentions, so she went with it.
the bell rang and student piled out the door. austin walked next to his friend with ryan following closely behind.
"who's the girl" the stranger asked.
"ryan. i'm ryan" she answered for herself.
"a girl who can speak for herself, i like it." he smirked. "i'm brandon"
the courtyard was filled with teenagers. in the middle of the school was quad with tables and umbrellas. of course they were all packed by now. except one table that no one dared to sit at.
"ryan, this is our table" austin said. "feel free to come by anytime. just never bring anyone to the table"
"what's the big deal? it's just a table" she asked confused.
"it's not just a table, it's our table" a deep voice answered.
for a second, she wished she had never asked. but when she turned around and saw the dread headed tall boy in front of her she didn't care.
"what happened to not bringing anyone around here huh?" nick asked placing his food onto the table.
"guys this is ryan and she's—"
"leaving" ryan finished his sentence before walking away.
she didn't know where she was going. but the amount of testosterone at the table was too much for her at the moment.
"you guys didn't have to be such dicks" brandon smacked the back of nick's head.
"yo what the fuck was that for? i asked one question" nick retaliated.
"we all know what it feels like to have military parents and have to move around so often. she just needs some friends" brandon went on.
the boys rolled their eyes. they knew brandon was right. but they'd never admit it.
__________
the bell rang. the day was finally over.
ryan made her way out onto the sidewalk where she was going to follow the same road she took on the way here."yo ry! wait up" austin yelled.
oh great.
"what's up?" ryan rolled her eyes as she kept walking.
"i live right next door you know, i can take you home so you don't walk" austin said.
"it's okay, i kind of want to walk today"
"ry, it's a 2 mile walk. let me take you home"
"stop calling me ry, you don't know me so stop acting like you do!" she snapped.
"i'm sorry, i just thought you'd like a friend around here" austin moved his eyes down to stare at his shoes.
his face made her feel bad. he was just trying to be nice. not everyone tried to be friends with her. maybe it would hurt her to be nice for once.
"fine, you can take me home" ryan pursed her lips. "and i'm sorry for being an asshole"
"just don't make it a habit" austin smiled guiding her to his car.
the two hopped into the black jeep that was parked in the front of the lot.
the drive wasn't too far, but austin was right. the walk would have been horrible. he pulled into his driveway and ryan made her way to her home next door.
"see you later ry–an, ryan" austin quickly corrected himself.
ryan smiled and waved goodbye. the moment she entered her home she was bombarded by her mother with the same questions she always asked.
"yes mom, the school is fine, no i didn't make any friends, classes are pointless, and yes i'm ready to move again"
"what about that boy next door? i saw you get here with him just now" her mom asked.
"that's austin, apparently dad worked a deal with his mom and he'll be driving me to school"
"well why are the classes pointless?" she continued to ask.
"the academy in salt lake was way harder than this, im basically like a whole year ahead of everyone" ryan groaned. "which is why you should reconsider home schooling me, i'm not learning anything here"
"ry, just enjoy the experience"
ryan rolled her eyes and headed upstairs walking past her brother who was doing his homework on the table.
in 4 short months, she would be graduating from the prison school and move to LA to go to college. her dad would be a good distance from her, where he wouldn't be able to cause any more harm.
