For the first time in a month I was back at church with my parents. The passing people flooded inside, the smiling and slight touches from the older women were therapeutic, it was a comfortable assurance.
Maybe I just really liked being touched.
I shake that thought. Not in front of the house of god.
I actually dread the idea of seeing kids from my school walk in with their parents, seeing me probably resurfaced the rumors of why I was gone for so long anyways. I notice Jordan and her mom almost immediately walking up the steps. After being around Jacks friends for an entire day this friendship lands me back on my feet.
I haven't told her about my first drunken experience with her brother. I haven't told her about the conversation Johnson and I had. I wasn't telling Jordan much lately. I couldn't tell Jack my problems, he was going to find the most generic boyfriend response and I need harsh criticism right now, even though it hurt to take it.
"Good Morning," She greets, she pulls me into a tight hug before greeting my parents, "May the lord be with us Mr Ryder."
My dad tightly smiles at Jordan, her humor was not in his taste.
She joins next to me, "No Gilinsky?"
I shake my head, "Not today."
"But yes Wilkinson."
I follow her sudden diverted eyes watching the couple reach the top step. Marilyn's information was correct, as usual. Sammy and Kami walk hand in hand, not enough space between them, and the tint of lipstick on his lips.
Kill me.
"Samuel!" My dad cheers giving him a very fatherly hug, "It's glad to have you back son."
Oh so he's been gone too.
"Kamilia, you look lovely," My mom greets.
It doesn't need to be said, the look on Jordan's face matched mine. I don't notice when the two finally address me till Jordan's long acrylic scratches my bicep.
"It's good to see you doing so well," Kami smiles, she played off a fake smile well, she could convince me that even we were friends if it wasn't for the constant trash talking and petty comments, "I know you had a rough couple months."
"Thanks," I dryly say, "I feel much better too."
"I'm glad you finally found God again, who knows where'd you be."
Her sinister smile makes me want to push her back down the stairs.
Not in front of the church!
"Are you still working at the ice cream stand?" I ask diverting her question, she shakes her head, "Gosh, it's so hard to keep up with you. You're a very active person."
She runs her tongue over the top row of her teeth, "Not as active as you lately."
Touché, bitch.
"Should we head in?" My mom interrupts.
"Sounds good," Sammy answers. He places an arm around Kami's waist before stepping in front of my parents, Jordan, and I. That entire relationship is distasteful, he could do better.
And now that it's hitting me seeing him with her, He had better.
