One month before Final Selection——•——
"Urokodaki-san?" Airi Hanata questioned softly from one side of a door.
Her pale knuckles tapped on the door to her master's office, "I need to ask you about something. It's important."
"One moment, Airi." The other voice echoed from the other side of the door. The old man came out and looked at the floor of the main room. Two white cups of tea were on the ground across from each other, steaming out from the inside. Airi hoped that she was being polite enough.
"I appreciate this. What is on your mind, child?" The master sat across from her, lifting his mask from the bottom to sip the green tea gently.
Airi had grown to be more verbal toward the other demon slayers in the home. She had grown to appreciate everything that Urokodaki, Sabito, and Giyū had done for her the past month. She would speak a lot to Urokodaki more in private settings. However, she would barely speak words around the two boys. She simply could not speak as much around them; she wondered if it was how close they all were in age or her awkward nature. She thought that, maybe, she would grow more comfortable in time.
Airi's training was rigorous, but she welcomed it. Constant training activities were thrown at her; from avoiding obstacles on the mountain to conquering waterfalls, Airi was exhausted all the time. Nonetheless, she woke before the sun did, and she would do it all over again for many weeks. Her body would ache, but her concentration breathing that she learned would help her escape the pain. She never knew the oxygen that would surround her blood flow could change how her body would send pain signals.
Although, in her mind, she wanted to meet her family again, but she still had a job to finish.
"I have this... talent," she started, "When I encountered my father, I started crying. I started crying blood."
She couldn't see her master's reaction, but she knew he cocked a brow quizzically. He grunted behind the mask in response.
"Blood?"
"Yes," she replied nonchalantly, "The closer I got to him, the more the tears came down. I didn't feel emotion when it happened. So, I have no idea how to stop it, sensei."
"I have seen this before with — someone," He explained, "Sabito and Giyū have heightened senses that help them indicate where demons are prowling. Are you aware of something you have that is out of the ordinary? Perhaps, a heightened sense?" He responded directly.
Airi pondered for a moment, "Well, if I focus, I can see the auras of people. I can see their brightness, if you will. The brighter the aura, the more positive and lighthearted they are, literally. For example, your aura right now is a bright white color. I can see people's character and what their intentions are with just their energies surrounding them."
