It all happened with a single chime echoing from the phone.
Steven's phone was buzzing. He retrieved it swiftly, from his pink suede jacket; taking a glance at who was phoning him at that hour. It was Connie. He takes a second to admire her profile picture. It's her, her hair short, as always, she has it pinned back. She looks busy. Of course glued to a book. He forces himself back into reality and answers.
"Hey Connie! How have you been?"
"Hey Steven! I've been good, still applying to colleges and all."
"You're still doing that? You know you have, like two years before college even starts."
"I know but it's better to start early!" she giggles. Steven had forgotten how prepared she likes to be.
"Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to hang today?" Connie changes the subject.
"Oh, today?.." Steven trails off.
"Yeah! If..you're not busy. ."
"Oh uh, well you see, I've been kind of busy with homeschooling and I promised the Diamonds I would visit later today. I'm sorry."
"Oh, that's okay! There's always next time!"
"Heh, yeah! How about we reschedule? How does next Monday sound?"
"Hm, that sounds great! I'll see you then! Bye!"
"Bye Connie!" he manages to muster before she hangs up.
"Love you..." he sighs.
"What was that now?" a gem Steven was teaching asks. He blushes with a luminescent pink tone.
"Uhhh . .um ..uh; nothiNG!" he covers his face while attempting to shove his phone back into his jacket's pocket.
"Sorry about that. Where were we?" a flustered Steven sighs in relief.
Steven meekly steps out of the Donsai, making his way back to the house. He closes the door leaning back against the wall, slowly making his way towards the door. He sighs before ruffling his hair.
"Now I just need to visit the Diamonds." Steven glances up at the picture of him and the crystal gems, framed nicely upon the wall. His family. "They must be out. Doing gem stuff, of course." Steven makes his way up from this comfortable position and waddles like a penguin, still flustered, to the bathroom. He switches on the light and washes his face. It's only been a day since his last shower. (stinky boi)
But he couldn't shower now, having promised the diamonds, guaranteeing his appearance once at their humble abode. He makes do with only washing his face and brushing his teeth. Not having any time left to eat either.
As he finishes brushing his teeth, he takes a quick leak before leaving. Since they obviously aren't aware of toilets on homeworld. He finishes up and walks out, Steven makes sure all the lights are off before he goes.
"Don't want to waste power." he says before making his way towards the warp pad. Warping away to another planet, and then another. Repeating this process until finally arriving.
"Hey everybody!" Steven says, shouting with glee. No one seems to hear him, unfortunately. The Diamonds nowhere to be seen. He makes his way to the thrones. They aren't there either. "Hm this is strange, they're usually here waiting for me." he lets out a sigh before going to Blue Diamonds room.
To only find nothing. He tries checking Yellow's room but, no one's there. Finally checking White's room. She isn't there either.
"Now, that's strange, I thought we had planned to hang out today." Steven says mockingly, in dismay.
