Four months.
Four months pregnant.
Four months and I still haven't told my dad.
I'm not really showing, which concerned Tanya, which is why we're sitting in the doctor's office on a Monday morning. If the doctor doesn't hurry this up I'll be late for school and my dad will have a giant fit about it. The last month I had faithfully went to school every day, despite the morning sickness, pain, peeing, and my appetite.
Everything feels fine, but Tanya is overprotective, so here we are.
Daniel is shaking his leg up and down like a mad man. He's even more protective than Tanya.
"Will you stop that, you're waking the baby up." I wasn't sure about that. The only feel I had been getting was like butterflies every now and then. Daniel's mom had told me that was the baby moving. Since getting pregnant I had only gained three pounds. That isn't exactly abnormal, six is the preferred weight gain, but I am a teenager and fairly skinny to begin with.
Daniel's eyes widened. "Did I?" He hands reached for my stomach instinctively, but then he stopped. I had a very small bump that jutted out from my shirt, but since only a handful of people knew about the pregnancy I didn't like him being all handsy in public.
"No, but I'm tired and trying to take a nap before--
"Tanya Mich- M?" The nurse came out with a clipboard and blonde hair. I groaned, but got up and followed the nurse to the room. Daniel trailed after me and Tanya led the way. Everything, all of this, was much easier with Daniel and his mom by my side.
"Okay, so who is Tanya?" She asked looking between the two of us.
"I am, but the appointment is for her. She is four months pregnant and we just want to make sure everything is okay, which i'm sure it is." She winked at me. The nurse nodded and started taking my temperature, weight, height, and BP.
"Well everything looks good, you are a little underweight for someone your height and especially since you are pregnant. What is your diet like?" I ignored the urge to roll my eyes.
"Whatever I feel like." I responded in monotone. Tanya cleared her throat. "I've been taking the prenatal vitamins and loads of other prenatal stuff, and I eat five times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner with two snacks. I eat my fruits and vegetables and occasionally eat a burger when Tanya isn't looking." She nodded again, typing everything I said.
"Okay, that seems normal. It might just be that your metabolism is still high and I would suggest eating more food if you can. Don't gorge yourself, but also maybe take chicken pills. They help store the nutrients in your body and you will experience weight gain, but of course that is a good thing at this point." She smiled. "We want a healthy baby, right?" I put on a nice smile and flashed it brightly at her.
"Right."
"Great, so the doctor will be in shortly. Do you have any questions for me?" She was so bubbling I wanted to barf on her. Wait, that was gross. Whatever.
"She's been complaining-- I mean explaining to me that her back hurts a lot and she pukes almost every morning. Is that normal? And is there anything you can do about that?" Daniel asked, looking more like a boy than ever.
"All of that should subside during the second trimester, and the next three months. Your appetite should increase as well. Is that all?" I nodded so that she would leave.
Once she was out of the room I gave them both a look.
"At least she's not the doctor." Daniel said, trying to lighten up the darkened mood I was in. Daniel thought it was because I hadn't told my dad yet. I highly disagreed with him. Yet, he was probably right. My dad and I were close, and this last month he had been home a lot more, giving me plenty of options to tell him. I dodged every last one of them.
