It was the first football game of the season. Jared had been at practice for the last week and thats pretty much all he talked about. Not that I minded I liked football, Holly however couldn't stand it. She loved the games and the pep rally's though, she fit into the envirioment almost perfectly. "Aren't you excited this is the first football game where you're dating the quater-back". Holly said as we walked around looking for a good seat she was almost jumping up and down from all the excitement.
"Yeah so excited Holly" I said rolling my eyes. "Jared told me they're going to make a big about it and let everyone know." I said very seriously. At that moment Tanny and the other cheerleaders walked passed us and down the stairs onto the scene, each one remembering to give me a dirty look.
"Did you feel that rush of cold air as soon as they walked by?" Holly asked obviously moving on from our previous conversation. "Oh look it's Tatum." Holly said looking behind us. The whole pep band was coming to take their usually spot in the bleachers and we were going to get a front seat view. Tatum was a friend of Jasons, she was pretty in a dark way, and she really only talked to people she was friends with, occasionally Holly and I. "Sup Tatum" Holly said as Tatum took her place just a couple feet away from us.
"Mm not much" Tatum replied in a dark voice. "How's it feel dating a football player, Mags?" Tatum asked with a rare smile that I usually only saw when occasionally when Jason would do something she found humorous.
"Oh its grand" I say in my most dramatic voice. "It's like I'm floating on stars." I say placing my hand to my forehead, swooning. Tatum laughs.
"I wish I could pull off the dark look like her. "Holly says when Tatum turns back to the band. "Like everyone thinks she's a badass, hell I would to if it weren't for Jason." Holly said. twig
"Holly I love you.. but you're too, um," I couldn't find the word, peppy? no. "Social." I said. She looked over at me with a stern look but it went away when she realized I was right. Her eyes shot behind me and she smiled as Jason walked up behind me. "Hey" I said turning to him. "Since when do you come to football games?" I asked. Usually Jason would keep track of how are football team was doing but would never go to the games, some baseball thing his teammates started.
"Since my three best friends are here" He said turning and smiling at Tatum. I never did understand their friendship, it was odd but some how it worked. "And now that you're dating Johnson I figured I might as well get use to being here." He said with a shrug.
"What's that suppose to mean? I ask sternly.
"Nothing" He said. Turning to face the field as all the players ran on. "Actually I just assumed that since you and Jared are a thing that you'd become some equivalent of a groupie." He spat at me. I looked over at Holly who's face was in utter shock.
"What the hell is with you recently?" I asked. "I have never seen this side of you ever and we've been friends for a long ass time now" I said turning to Holly who was nodding along with everything I said. "Plus that's not only the meanest thing you've ever said to me, but the meanest thing I've heard come out of your mouth, EVER" I say.
He looks like I just slapped him, maybe I should've. "Mags," He startes to say. "I didn't mean that its just that..."
I don't let him finish even though I know I should. "Whatever Jason I know what you meant." I say pushing past him and heading up the stadium, I can't breath. This is too much, I could handle Tanny but not Jason, not my best friend. I feel the tears build behind my eyes.
"He didn't mean it." Holly whispers behind me. I turn to her and I see her sense my sadness. "He's just jealous and it's making him act crazy" Holly continues.
"I just need a second" I shout almost running away from her, I can't breath. I just take off and soon I'm out of the stadium. Jason, I love him so much, he has made me laugh so many times when I was on the verge of crying. And now here we were, him causing the tears. Jared Johnson and caused ripples in my life effecting everything. And then it happens and the tears hit my face, and they don't stop. The first time I saw Jason he was sitting at a table with all the other freshman baseball boys, I was following Holly to a table when one of the guys tripped me. Of course I stood up called him a few harsh names that caused all the other guys to ooo and ahh and then went on with my lunch. Later, however, Jason came over and sat down. "Can I help you?" I asked as soon as he took a seat. "Actually you could, I would really appreciate it if you used all that attitude of you're and go kick Tyler's ass over there, I think it could really help his ego." This caused Holly to choke on her drink and then burst out laughing. After that I hadn't expected Jason to talk to me, but the next day he came to my locker to tell me a story about how Tyler had got his ass kicked at practice. And the day after that he sat with Holly and I at lunch top tell more baseball stories. For the rest of the school year I expected Jason to someday just disappear, but he stayed. That summer he'd call and we hang out he even taught me how to hit a baseball one week. When Sophomore year started he made Varsity and I was sure he was going to leave then, but even when he got hit on by junior girls and invited to sit with the jocks he stayed. He stayed. Jason had more kindness in his pinky than anyone I've ever met. He didn't care what other people thought, if he liked you he'd talk to you, and if he didn't he'd still respect you. When I told him about my aunt and my parents he didn't look at me with pity and sorrow as everyone else had, and for that I admired him.
"It's Maggie right?" I swallow the rest of my tears and turn. Behind me stands a tall guy with red hair and freckles all over his face, as dorky as he sounds he's kind of attractive.
"Mags" I mumble. "Do I know you?" I ask looking up at him.
"I'm kyler" he says.
"What's the matter your parents couldn't decide between Tyler and Kyle?" I ask harshly. I was taking out all my anger on a person I didn't know, because my heart was just broken by my best friend. I wish I could've explained this to him but anger was still bursting out of me and I'm afraid anything I'd say would be worse than jokes about his name.
"Oh so that's why Jared keeps you around." He says smiling, I of course give him a questioning look causing his smile to widen, "Because every time you sass him he gets to fuck the attitude out of you." He says. We both heard my jaw hit the floor..."I'm sorry but you're too short for me, I don't think I can take over Jared's place right now."
"That's true, you probably don't have a big enough dick." I yell back at him. Some middle schoolers walking to the game burst out laughing as they walk past us, listening to our conversation. His smile fades as my appears. "Listen, I'm sorry I'm kind of in a testy mood right now and I know you were just trying to comfort me." I say.
"Maybe, Maybe I had other motives." He says with a smile.
"Enlighten me, what other motives?" I ask with a smile. My phone buzzes right then and I pull it out of my pocket. As kyler continue I read all my missed messages,
