IV. Shogi

"What drew you to him anyways?" Ino asked her friend, she constantly watched as Shikamaru watched the red headed boy, who, since his chakra mellowed out was a lot more friendly, well to certain people, him and the Uchiha along with Sakura seemed not to get along. He seemed to be really close with Shino.

Shikamaru watched as Naruto and Shino sat on the grass, the animals and insects seemed to gather around them. They both didn't look really interested in it, but Shikamaru could tell Naruto was having fun.

"We are friends, we usually hang out after school, since Kiba and Shino hang out after school. The bell rung and Shino and Naruto stood up to walk back into the classroom, Naruto walked in and saw Shikamaru. He walked over and started speaking.

"Can you teach me how to play Shogi?" Naruto asked and Shikamaru tilted his head.

"Asuma-San never taught you?" Naruto shook his head and opened a book.

"I want to master this, by my arm movements don't flow like it should, Ji-San said I should try Shogi, and said you and Nara-San are exceptional at it. That and we are friends aren't we?" Shikamaru nodded his head, and the now ten year olds nodded.

"I'll come over after school, i have to stop by the tower to get my notes." Shikamaru nodded, and Naruto gave a wave.

"Choji-Kun, Ino-Kun." Naruto walked away to sit by his seat next to the brooding emo and the pink haired fan girl. He totally hated his assigned seat. Sasuke was annoying and Sakura made him go deaf one time in one ear.

After he molded all of his chakra, his sense of smell and hearing doubled, much like a Inuzuka his ears were really sensitive which is why he hated this seat so much, he could literally hear a pin drop if the class was silent which was never with Sakura insufferable yelling. She could however be a great ninja if she tried.

They continued on with class, and then it was over. Naruto walked out but Shikamaru wanted to walk with him, so he quickly said goodbye to Choji and Ino, and went to walk with Naruto. Naruto hummed as he walked next to Shikamaru.

"I said I'd meet you at your home." Naruto said as Shikamaru yawned.

"Yes but I'd be troublesome if I let you walk alone." Naruto sighed as he continued to walk next to Shikamaru. He grabbed his notes, in the office was the white haired male whose name he never bother to learned because he was just a pervert.

"Hello, Ji-San can I have my notes." Naruto said and Hizuren hummed.

"You are adamant about sealing huh?" Hizuren said handing the notes to Naruto, Naruto nodded and he sighed.

"That and medical Ninjustu. Plus this power coursing through my veins." Naruto said and Hizuren nodded.

"Train well Naruto. Are staying the night with the Nara's?" Naruto tilted his head.

"Why would I? Is Asu-Sensei on a mission?" Naruto asked and Hizuren nodded.

"And I'll be leaving for a Kage meeting, soon. Shikaku has offered to watch you where times like this when neither me or Asuma can." Naruto nodded.

"Do you mind Shikamaru? If not I can sleep in the forest, the animals will keep me safe." Naruto said and Shikamaru sighed.

"Troublesome redhead, you can stay. Now come on, you have training to do." Naruto waves to Hizuren and spoke before leaving.

"Pervert, you should stop hiding your aura, I'd kill you if you hide it from me next time we meet." Naruto continued walking out and Shikamaru followed, he knew he hated when people hid their aura's it means they were hiding something, and Naruto hated that.

"So mean, Naruto." Naruto chuckled a little as opened a bag of chips, handing Shikamaru his notes to carry.

"I just don't like people's who aura I can't read, I usually give them three chances, but since the pervert doesn't seem to have brain cells I told him myself, but enough about me." Naruto started as he looked to Shikamaru.

"When are you going to take your training more seriously." Shikamaru yawned.

"When did you turn into my mother." Naruto shrugged.

"I just want you to be left behind, you see how Sakura and Sasuke are barely improving, I don't want you to fall behind." Shikamaru chuckled.

"Worried?" Naruto stopped and tilted his head, he was still new to all the feelings he's been feeling lately.

"That might be the emotion I'm feeling." Naruto said and Naruto arrived at Shikamaru's home, Naruto went to toss his bag of chips away as Shikamaru went up to set up the Shogi board. Naruto came and sat down as he watched Shikamaru explain the rules.

Naruto nodded as they had a few trial runs, and then they started playing an actual game. Shikaku hummed lowly as he walked home, Hizuren had asked him to adopt Naruto, but he couldn't, he knew his son was young, and he may be reading this wrong, but if Shikaku was right, which 95% of the time, then he was right about this.

Shikamaru was developing a crush.

Whether it would last or fiddle away, he knew exactly what his son was feeling, and the reason why he couldn't adopt Naruto. His son would never forgive him. He opened the door to his home and where he thought was going to be peace and quiet was really loud arguing, he's never so much heard neither Shikamaru or Naruto yell and be so angry.

"YOU RED HEAD."

"YOU AREN'T PLAYING FAIR!"

"I AM, I EXPLAINED THE RULES!"

"THE WHY THE HELL DID YOU MOVE YOUR PIECE LIKE THIS, TO THE RIGHT BUT I DID IT TO THE LEFT IT WAS WRONG?"

"BECAUSE THATS HOW THAT PIECE WORKS!"

"LIAR! MY BEST FRIEND IS A LIAR!"

"I WOULD NEVER LIE TO YOU, CANT'T YOU SEE MY AURA!"

"TCH EXPLAIN THE RULES AGAIN THEN!"

"Stop yelling in my house, I'll explain the rules." Shikaku walked over to the children, him sitting in the middle while both children watched and nodded. Shikaku gave Naruto real life situations comparing them to his emotions and Kurama's friendship.

"Better?" Shikaku asked and Naruto nodded as he looked to Shikamaru.

"Sorry for yelling, shall we play a real game?" Naruto said and Shikamaru nodded.

"Me too, I should've been clearer." Shikamaru said as they played an actual game. Shikaku hummed and leaned back as the children seemed to tie in every game after he explained it to Naruto. Naruto sighed lowly.

"Check Shikamaru." Shikaku sat up and looked at the board and Shikamaru chuckled.

"You're right, wanna go again?" Shikaku hummed looking at the board.

"Face me." Naruto nodded and turned the board to Shikaku and moved the pieces back, Shikamaru watched the match with careful eyes before Naruto spoke again.

"Check, Nara-San." Shikaku hummed and smiled.

"You've been training with the fox?" Naruto stood and nodded.

"I'll shower. Thanks for having me." Naruto said as he walked upstairs and Shikamaru sighed.

"I need to catch up." Shikamaru said lying flat on his back.

"He's a chakra monster, let's not forget that. You have a lot of chakra, but Naruto would run circles around you in an actual match." Shikamaru sighed lowly and Shikaku hummed.

"Train your reserves, I'll help you." Shikamaru sat up and nodded, watching as Naruto came down in pajamas that was way too long for him.

"I'll cook dinner." Naruto said walking into the kitchen and Shikamaru laid back down.

"What a drag."
