Eighteen

Alexis' POV

------

"That'll be $27.82." the cashier at McDonald's said to Joe, as he ordered nuggets, spicy chickens, fries, and burgers. I wasn't used to this food, considering I'm more into healthy foods rather than fast food restaurants. However, I didn't really care what we ordered at the moment.

I leaned my head against the window, my face propped up by my elbow. I was beyond tired. I wouldn't be surprised if I fell asleep in this car at this very moment. Although, his window was down, and the only thing audible was the loud LA traffic.

I honestly wasn't hungry, but I guess everyone else was. So I just had to be the one to tag along with Joe. And it's not him that's the problem. I'm just extremely tired.

"Alexis." Joe said, as I flinched. He chuckled, handing me the large bag of food. I set it on my lap, as we began driving out of the McDonald's parking lot. It seemed to take forever, considering this traffic was almost as crazy as a drunk Tyler.

We sat in the silent car for a moment. It wasn't awkward, him knowing I was exhausted. But Joe never shuts up so he eventually started a conversation.

"How's LA so far?" he asks. I really wanted to ignore him, but I knew that was rude. "It's nice. A big change from Australia or the UK." I mumble just loud enough for him to hear me. From the corner of my eye, I see him nodding his head.

"Yeah, it's nice out here. I like the weather." he speaks, sighing. It went silent for another moment. He shifted in his seat. I wasn't sure if he was uncomfortable, or felt slightly awkward. But I didn't bother asking him. He ran his hand through his hair.

"So, do you like everyone?" he asks abruptly. I mentally stabbed him, as he had to of known how tired I was. I sighed, mumbling profantites. "They're great. Really cool lads." I say, leaning my head on the window. He chuckles, looking over at me. "You seemed to have taken a liking to Connor."

"What?" I asked, now more involved in the conversation.

"Connor, Connor Franta. The one you sat by at the food bar for like three hours." he spoke. He had something in his voice. I wasn't sure what it was. Envy? Jealously? I wasn't sure.

"Sat by him? It wasn't just us. Jenn, Tyler, Troye, and Ingrid were all there as well." I scoffed. I watched him roll his eyes. It was definitely jealousy.

What would he be jealous about? Connor? Doesn't he have a girlfriend? No, that's Jc. Maybe Connor likes someone that Joe is crushing on? I am beyond confused at this point.

"Are you jealous?"

"What? Why would I be jealous?"

"Because you seem upset that Connor was at the table with us."

"So."

"Do you like Jenn? Or anyone for that matter?" I ask, confused. He chuckles shaking his head. "No, I don't like Jenn."

"Okay, then who do you like? You've gotta like someone?" I ask, a smirk planted on my face. He shakes his head, looking out the window. "C'mon. You can tell me." I nudged his shoulder. He just shook his head once more.

"I do like someone. But you wouldn't know her." he looked at me. As soon as he spoke those words, I suddenly woke up a lot more. My stomach sort of just dropped. As if I wasn't expecting that answer.

"She'd never like me back though." he murmured, driving a little more before we got stopped once again. "Joe, I'm sure any girl would be lucky to be with you." I smiled, looking at him. The lights from the street we were on lit his face up. His pale-ish skin was easy to spot. His eyes were extremely bright.

He looked uneasy. As if he was kind of uncomfortable.

We continued the drive home in an awkward silence. I wasn't awkward, but he was. Which made me feel awkward.

We eventually pulled into the parking lot, as Joe got out quickly. He seemed upset, which confused me more. And I was already extremely confused. I groaned, holding into the large bag of food.

I got out of the vehicle, following Joe inside. As he opened the hotel door, I was assuming he was going to hold it for me, considering I had the food. However, he didn't. Causing me to catch it with my elbow, as the door hit my ankle.

"Joe!" I shouted, as he ignored me. I scoffed. "Joe, what's your problem?" I spoke slightly softer, as he stopped in his tracks. He turned and looked at me as if I was stupid.

(Prepare for major feels)

"You really must be stupid." he scoffed. I widened me eyes, licking my lips. "Uhm, what?" I questioned why he just insulted me.

"You are so oblivious, Alexis. Can't you see it?" he shouts. I furrow my brows. "See what?" I scoff once again. He chuckles, rolling his eyes. "I. Like. You. Okay, it's that simple. Ever since I laid eyes on you. You have been so oblivious to it. Why do you think Zoe suggests you to be around me so often?" he shouts.

I stand completely still, astonished from what I've just heard. We lock eyes for a moment. I wasn't sure exactly what to say, knowing there wasn't anything for me to say.

"Yes, I was jealous of Connor. Does that make you happy?" he laughs desperately. We were about five feet away from each other. I was basically glued to my spot, not exactly sure what to say or do.

In an instant, he walked towards me, placing one of his hands on my cheek, the other on my neck. He crashed his lips into mine, as I was yet surprised even more. My eyes widened, as I didn't move whatsoever.

Soon enough, my eyes fluttered closed, as the food fell out of my hands. I moved my hands up to around his neck, tightening my grip around him. He moved his hands down to my waist, wrapping them around my petite figure.

Our lips moved in sync, as I couldn't help but smile in the kiss. This caused him to do the same. Once we were about to pull apart, we heard the last thing we'd want to hear.

"Holy shit!"
