“This is her class?” I looked at Antonia and she nodded. A week. That was how long I had to wait to meet the female that I was predestined to spend out my entirety with. I had met her but her introduction wasn’t how I anticipated it would go and she walked away as though it was the easiest thing for her to do. I didn’t know what she was or where she came from; she didn’t have a clear distinctive accent that made it easy for me to distinguish her from other species.
“Are you going to sit with us?” I glanced at my niece and nephew and shook my head and moved to sit two rows from the front on the left side of the lecture room just where I would be noticeable but shouldn’t distract her. I saw her before I smelt her. Her scent was masked even more than when she sat in my home and I scrunched up my eyebrows. I looked her up and down and swallowed at how beautiful she looked in a plain black and white dress with black stockings on her feet and heeled shoes.
“I assume everyone did their assignment.” She began looking up from a sheet of paper she had. “How interesting.” She mused and looked up. “Any questions?” A few hands went up and she tilted her head before pulling out a clipboard and pointing her pen to a boy with horrible acne.
“Miss, why did you choose that story?” She mused.
“Well, what did you think about it?” She asked instead and the boy frowned.
“I thought the story was tragic the way Dante had to do all that to be with Beatrice and the love triangle between them and Virgil…” He shook his head trailing off and she sighed.
“That was a grade schoolers response.” She took a deep breath. “Yes, travelling to the underworld/Hell to retrieve Beatrice was hard on Dante but he chose to. He chose his path, now he had to walk it. His trials and tribulations would have made someone suicidal but it’s understood that he deeply loved Beatrice. Now insert Virgil, his friend, also pining for his woman. We have some jealousy, some aggression, even hatred and the book makes me think that I could do without so much headache.”
“What will you do if a man had done the same thing for you?” She tilted her head in my direction and I wanted to kick myself for asking such a question.
“I’m not interested in such actions. Some may say going through Hell to be with the one you love is romantic but for me it’s a nuisance.” She shrugged and I frowned. “Any more questions?”
“You made a point last class about us being able to accept death, but no one wants to die.” A blonde girl spoke up. “And although Dante went to Hell there was no clear indication that he has changed.” She tilted her head.
“Read the book again and no one wants to die, well no non-suicidal person but death comes whether we want it to or not. Which brings me to a point…” I zoned out as she began divulging into great depth about the book. I continued to stare at her and I could feel her blatantly ignoring me.It wasn’t until she picked up her clipboard and took off the projector did I notice that she was packing up.
“Miss Prince, are you okay?” She looked at the brunette who asked the question and tilted her head in confusion.
“I’m fine.” She blinked shocked and I stared at her with wide eyes as I noticed her bleeding nose. She moved her hand to touch the blood and frowned. “Excuse me.” She moved towards the door and fished her phone out of her pocket and dialled a number before speaking into it quietly and quickly. My eyebrows furrowed as I realised she wasn’t speaking english. There was a knock at the door before the door opened and the man who came with her, who she referred to as her brother walked through.
“Students don’t be alarmed, Connie is perfectly fine, just a little tired.” He winked at the room and she glared at him.
“Who are you?” Acne boy inquired and he smirked.
“I’ll be your sub for until Ms. Prince is all better.” She said something to him and he frowned and wrinkled his nose in distaste. “There will be a review quiz on any one of the books you read during your break.” They groaned collectively.
“Are you sure she’s going to be okay?” He rose his eyebrows and his eyes settled on me.
“Gabriel, can you please help Connie back to her office.” I blinked before standing slowly and approaching her. She didn’t pay me a glance as she left the hall and I followed behind her.
“Shouldn’t you stop the bleeding?” She turned to look back at me and rolled her eyes.
“Sunt bine, trebuie doar să mă întorc.” I blinked.
“What did you just say?” She rolled her eyes again. I followed behind her until she opened the door to her office and I watched as she locked the door behind me before moving around the room in search of something. I stood off to the side, unsure of what exactly I should do to help her.
She took a silver looking bracelet off her hand and almost instantaneously her scent of sunshine and meadows flooded my nose and I took a deep breath. She pulled off a similar chain and wrapped it around the chain and turned to look at me and I gasped.“Your eyes are bleeding!” I stated alarmed and I moved towards her and she thrust the band in front of her to keep me away.
“I suggest you take your leave now.” I blinked.
“And if I don’t want to?” She sighed.
“Then grab on.”
