“Mom?” I glanced up at Nevin.

“What is it?” He shrugged.

“Are you really happy with moving?”

“Of course, Cal is going away to school and Melissa has decided to do some things with Chris so there is no reason for me to stay here.” He pouted.

“And wherever you go, I’ll accompany you.” Thaddeus kissed my cheek.

After the trial with Una and Gabriel, Thaddeus made sure to retire and decided that his best option would be to live with me. Melissa made a successful recovery from rehab and after telling her her options, she decided that she wanted to be a vampire. Chris turned her without so much as batting an eye and she currently spent most of her time learning from him how he fed from blood bags and animals instead of people. Just last week I watched Nevin help Cal through his first ever shift and I was proud. He had even obtained a war form. He was a wolf with dark fur and a war form with even darker fur. Cal decided to continue to pursue his degree in law since he had all the time in the world now. We weren’t actually sure if he would become immortal or how long his life would last but he wanted to grab life by the horns and try his best to fight for what he believed in.

“Nev, I just realised something.” Cal called out and I tilted my head at him.

“And that would be?”

“That mom’s name is the colour of love.” I scrunched up my eyebrows.

“Isn’t love red?” He shook his head at my question.

“When I think about the love you have for me and Nevin and Mel and dad and the way you love us, I don’t see red. I see a colour filled with warmth that makes me feel loved. I think Amber is the real colour of love.”

"I can't say I agree with that." I shrugged my shoulders.

"It's like the saying crazy in love."

"Those are different things." I told him but he shook his head.

"Crazy in love and everything is red because that's the colour of blood but happy in love, sane in love, that's the colour of you mom." I shrugged my shoulders.

"I didn't do anything special, I just loved you guys like any good mother would." Cal walked over and hugged me tightly.

"And that's all I think we needed." Nevin told him. "To be loved for who we truly are, no matter what we are."

I knew deep down that I felt the same way. Accepting that my parents were dead was a hard step for me to take because I always felt as though no one would love me the way they did. No one would accept me as not being fully human or fully werewolf either but my kids accepted me. And they loved me.

And that was all I would ever need.
