~Gabriel's POV~

I approached Nevin when she took Cal and Melissa upstairs to settle into their new rooms.

"Hey." He looked at me curiously and cocked an eyebrow. I saw the faint similarities in their facial expressions amd features but it was clear that he took his looks from his father.

"Alpha Gabriel." He mocked.

"Why don't we get to know each other?" He smirked and took a seat.

"You wouldn't like to get to know me." I glanced around and noticed that Chris was engrossed in a phone call and Vern wasn't around.

"I think I would. Your mom and I are mates after all." I smiled and he chuckled.

"Okay Alpha, what would you like to know?" He was mocking me again.

"Well for starters, what are you? I'm a werewolf as you know but I don't know what you are." He hummed and stood up.

"My mom's a werewolf, genetically so I got that from her." My eyes widened. I didn't think he would be part werewolf. The scent was there but that was it.

"So you can shift?" He tilted his head and smirked at me.

"I can." And I had a strong gut feeling that I didn't want to see him shift.

"That's incredible, I thought since Amber couldn't-" He cut me off.

"That I would be unable to as well?" He shrugged. "They didn't expect me to, it shocked them more than it shocked me." I didn't get the chance to ask who the them was because the door opened and an older version of him walked in. He was handsome; blonde hair, blue eyes and a towering height of 6'6". His complexion was healthy, almost tan and he had a smile that I'm sure would make many women swoon.

"Nevin." He smiled and Nevin walked over to him and embraced him in a hug.

"Uncle Hector, nice to see you." The older man smiled and turned his head nodding at Chris before looking at me.

"Who's the wolf?" Nevin tilted his head.

"Mom's mate." He face became passive of all emotion as he stared at me with something raw and venomous in his eyes.

"So she has one." He turned his head. "Where is Amber?" I smelt her before I saw her.

"Hi Hector." She came down the stairs and he wrapped her in a hug and I had the suspicion that this man was Nevin's father.

"What can I do for you?" He smiled and she smiled back, warm and gentle.

"I've got two new kids." He turned to glare at me.

"Really?" His tone was harsh and she took his hand in hers and led him to the chair.

"Yes, they are Calvin Smoke's kids." He looked at Nevin again.

"Ah!" He smiled. "What do you need?"

"The will and testament of Calvin Smoke, such that everything he owns is left to his two children and them only."

"He had other children?" She looked away.

"One other child who is still a minor and the mother." He hummed.

"It's not like you to take bread and butter from children." She looked down and looked back up.

"But he was an abuser." His eyes softened. That statement seemed to sum up that it was okay to take the bread and butter from the unsuspecting. "You can leave them cash assets, it will bug me that I left them for dead."

"I'll have the will in your hands tomorrow." She smiled.

"You're the best." He smiled.

"Only for you." And he released her and kissed her forehead before turning to do the same with Nevin and turning to leave. "Don't be a stranger, you two are still my family after all." She waved at him.

"Tell Sylvie I'll be expecting her." He dismissed her words.

"I don't see any reason to speak with her." He huffed and she laughed.

"Be safe." He saluted her and walked out of the house, closing the door behind him. She turned and stared at me before blinking rapidly. "I didn't know you were still here." I frowned.

"Where else would I be?" She rose an eyebrow.

"At your pack." I blinked and nodded slowly.

"You're right." I moved towards the door. "I'll see you again?" She tilted her head.

"You know where I live." She moved away and Nevin stood in place watching me.

"You're mates, huh?" He shook his head and turned to walk up the stairs. "See ya Alpha."

He knew something I didn't and I wish I was in on the secret.

"Would you like me to teleport you home?" Vern asked and I cocked an eyebrow. If I could get any information it would be from him.

"I think I could drive. But, what you can tell me about is Nevin's father." He stared at me and pursed his lips.

"The best person is Amber or Chris. We never got along." He shrugged. "But don't worry, he won't come and try to steal Amber from you." He laughed and suddenly it was a concern. I hadn't thought about that before but suddenly it was a very real possibility.

"She doesn't seem to want to talk about such a topic." He shrugged.

"Can you blame her?" He cocked an eyebrow.

"I don't know what happened between them." He thought for a second and smiled at me.

"And I don't want to face the wrath of Amber so she's going to have to be the one to tell you."

"So you don't know?" He laughed.

"I've known Amber longer than Chris has. There isn't anything I don't know about Amber." He shrugged. "Now would you be a doll and leave." He wasn't smiling but his tone was light and I figured I should take my leave.

"I'll see you around." He folded his arms.

"Word of advice, you should start looking for a replacement Alpha if you're serious about Amber. She wouldn't leave her family to become a Luna."

"But…" I was confused.

"The concept of mates doesn't mean to her the same thing it means to you. To someone who has watched loved ones die, a mate is too heavy a burden for her to carry."
