I ran over to his body, hugged him and screamed. How could God be so cruel?
I couldn't see or hear anything, I couldn't focus and my heart pounded loudly in my chest.
Was this how my mother felt when they brought her the news of my death? I felt like a big part of me was dying.
Arms wrapped around me and pulled me away from his body and I kicked my legs up and screamed hysterically.
"Get him down from there!" Thaddeus screamed as he pulled me closer to him and away from Nevin. Through my hysterics I saw Gabriel approach Nevin's body and pull him free before laying him on the ground. Cal was in a corner sitting, hugging his feet as he stared out at the men.
"What do we do now?" Gabriel asked. Thaddeus released me to put a shield around us and I crawled to Nevin's side.
"Give me a few minutes to recharge then I'll teleport us out of here."
Nevin twitched.
"Cal, come here." I mumbled as I moved away and hugged him close to me to try and smother him in my scent. I remembered before I died I saw my cousin 'come back from the dead'. He was attacked and badly wounded, pronounced dead but he hadn't died. Later that night he came back alive in his war form and attacked everyone, sparing only his immediate kin. Thankfully he didn't kill anyone but there were a lot of injured people afterwards.
I watched as Nevin's hands turned to claws and his skin darkened and stretched. His face elongated to accommodate the snout and his limbs grew. The thick hide grew light brown fur and his claws came out almost black.
"What's happening?" Cal whispered as he held me tighter.
"That's a war form. He's shifting." I looked at Gabriel. "Gabriel, stay behind Thaddeus and Thaddeus when his eyes open drop the barrier." I moved away more. It wasn't a long wait for him to sit up and his red beady eyes stared at us. His eyes fixed on me and I stared back before his eyes shifted to look at Thaddeus before he growled. Low and deep and a sound that gave me chills dancing along my spine.
"I'm still your father." Thaddeus hissed before he dropped the barrier and looked at me. Nevin ran out and I swallowed as I turned to look at the scene as he began attacking the people.
"Is he okay?" Cal whispered.
"He'll be fine. Takes a little while for the murderous impulse to subside but he won't hurt you." And we watched. Transfixed as he bit into the people, tearing off arms and ripping out throats until he stood before the Wiccan. Well I suppose now we knew what happened to him.
Nevin attacked, biting a chunk out of his side and using his front paws to form streaks with his face. The Wiccan howled and Nevin took the opportunity to bite his neck before biting at his face. I turned away and hid Cal's face in my top as the squishing sound of something being chewed filled the air.
"That's unsettling." Gabriel whispered and I kept Cal close to me as Nevin walked over to us. His bloody snout dripped as he walked closer to us.
"Nevin." Thaddeus whispered and they locked eyes.
"Is he going to be okay?" Cal mumbled from my chest.
"Nevin." I whispered and he looked at me and bowed his head. I kept Cal close to me as I inched forward. "Come to mama baby." I whispered and he whimpered. I lifted a hand in front of his snout and he looked at it and sniffed it before licking it. I smiled at him and passed my hand through the blood matted fur; trying my hardest not to squirm at the feeling.
In almost no time, disgusting fur turned to plain hide then back to skin and Nevin wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tightly.
"I have you." I looked over to Thaddeus and he nodded before closing his eyes.
This time, we all transported back in front of my house, hopefully in the right time.
