annie stood my layla's chair, holding the tissue to her forehead. "hello layla, i'm dr.kin. may i see your head please?"
"we were at our new house, and i looked away for like a second-"
"are you celeste?" the dr asked, seeing celeste's name on the chart.
"no-"
"you're not her mother?" dr.kin asked.
"technically no-"
"layla!" hayden exclaimed, seeing her and immediately running to her side.
"sir are you her father?" dr.kin asked.
"yes. what happened?" hayden asked.
"it was an accident. we were at the house-"
"i was asking the doctor annie." hayden snapped back.
with nurses coming in and residents, it was getting quite filled. "i'm sorry miss but only family can be in here. you can wait in the waiting room-"
"i am family. hayden, tell her." annie said. hayden didn't say anything, "fine. i'll go."
—
"how can this happen! i trust you with my kid and she ends up in the emergency room!" hayden yelled.
"our kid!" annie yelled.
"momma?" layla whispered, walking into their room, rubbing her eyes.
"i'll put her back to sleep. you take a shower. it's been a long day." annie said, anger clearly in her voice.
"momma, milk?" layla asked, pointing to her empty bottle.
"ok. let's go." annie held her on her waist and they walked to the kitchen. annie poured layla her bottle of milk and then they went back to layla's nursery. annie rocked her while she drank her milk. soon enough layla was asleep so annie put her back in her crib. annie walked back to hers and hayden's room, "don't talk. i'm tired." she said, then laid her head on the pillow and fell asleep.
