This morning I decided to take a walk in the streets since it was my favorite season of all, fall. I love everything about this season, the sky is Grey, It look a bit sad but orange, yellow, brown and green colors of nature, lightens the mood and the air is not too hot not too cold with a fresh breeze. I was looking around when I saw a boy kindly smiling at me. He was wearing a green hat, he had hair falling on his shoulders, he was wearing a nice navy blue suit with a white shirt and a brown tie and he was walking with a wooden cane. I kindly returned his smile, putting my hands in my pocket. He stopped close to me which made me stop as well. "Hello, I am Sam, would you like me to show you something?" he asked kindly on a sweet voice. 'How to say no to a sweet person like this' I thought. "Nice to meet you Sam, well why not" I smiled wondering what he'd like to show me. He got a tissue out of his pocket with one hand and showed me his other hands which was empty, without a word he covered his free hand with the soft fabric and made me a sign to shake his arm. I gently shook his arm and then he uncovered his hand and two pink roses were laying on his hand. With a smile, he made a sign with his eyes for me to take them. "Thank you Sam" I softly said taking the flowers, smiling. "I don't know where you're off to but if you want we can take a walk to the park?" he asked putting the tissue back in his pocket. "I'm off to anywhere" I smiled. We linked our arms together and started walking to the park. "I've never saw you here before, where are you from?" I asked looking in his deep and soft brown eyes. "California, I travel all around the country and maybe become the next Buster Keaton who knows" he said happily. "Oh that's a nice project!! Maybe you should try New York if you hadn't been there yet, more like Broadway" I said smiling. We sat on an old wooden bench which was sitting on the bright green grass. "Do you have a ring?" he asked cutely as a smile spread across his face. "Yes I do, here but be extremely careful with it" I said handing him my grandma's golden ring with a ruby an emerald and sapphire small squared shaped rocks gently embraced by the golden fabric, this was the only memory I had of her and the thing I cherished the most. "I'll sure be, you can trust me" he said nodding his head causing his soft brown and wavy hair to move with it. He showed me the ring on the palm of his hand then closed his fingers in a fist. And he re-opened his hand and the ring was gone. I made a shock expression, like if I lost the ring for ever. "Where is it Sam?" I asked a bit in a worry, he passed a hand through my mid length golden hair and in a blink of an eye the yellow fabric was between his finger. "Well I guess it was caught in your hair" he said innocently. "But how do you do that?" I asked amazed. "A good magician doesn't reveal his secrets" he said with a smirk and winked at me. "Oh by the was you didn't told me your name" he said bending his head on the side. "I'm Nikky like the bassist Nikki Sixx" I smiled. "Nikky, it's a beautiful name" he said crossing his legs. I checked my watch and it was already 6:30 almost dinner time. "Sam?" I softly asked causing him to get out of his thought and turn his head to me. "Yes Nikky?" he asked, "would you like to have dinner in my house tonight?" I asked running a hand through my hair. "I'd love to, it's really kind of you" he smiled. Sam and I got up and we made our way to my shared house with my mother. "Mom I'm home and we have a guest tonight" I screamed happily dropping my stuff on the table of the entrance corridor but no response from my mother. I entered in the kitchen as he followed. "Mom?" I asked once again but still no response. "Maybe she is still at work?" said softly Sam. "No she always finishes work at 3pm she works as a housekeeper in a hotel, she should be here or at least left a note like she use to do" I said looking everywhere for a note. "I'll go check in her room I'm coming back" I smiled and went upstairs. I first check her room. The bed was made, the window was open and looked like she never came back. I check in the bathroom, still nothing. I then checked the other rooms but nothing as well, I went down and the phone started ringing as Sam sat quietly on ou large leather sofa. "Hello? Yes it's me" I said picking as someone asked if I was Nikky Stanley, which I am. "W.. What? Y… Yes I'm coming right away" I said with tears in my eyes. "Sam we have to go to the hospital, my mom got a car accident and she is severely injured getting here into a coma and a surgery in emergency" I said picking my stuff as he immediately got up with his stuffs as well. We took a bus to the hospital and once arrived we ran to the lobby. "I'm Nikky Stanley the daughter of Sandra Stanley, where can I see her please?" I asked worried and started shaking. "She is right now in the operating room of the second floor you can wait in front of it" said the nurse nonchalantly. "Thank you" I said on a low voice. "Come on Sam we'll take the elevator" I said grabbing his arm and taking him to the elevator. "She was really not welcoming…" he said looking at his cane. "No she wasn't, it's the first time I get a cold welcoming here usually they're so soft" I said on a disappointed tone, pressing the second floor bouton. As the lift got up, my heart started beating fast, I was scared for my mother, I stared blankly at the Grey floor. "Nikky, we are at the second floor" gently said Sam posing a hand on my shoulder, getting me out of my thoughts. "Oh yeah, let's go" I said fainting a smile. We arrived in front of the oparating room and we sat on the chairs in front of the entrance. "I hope she will be okay…" I said under my breath. "I hope so too" said Sam on a reassuring tone gently caressing my back. We turned out heads at the sound of the operating doors opening, a man all dressed in white with some blood stains on his shirt came out, as he took off his mask "Are you the daughter of the patient Sandra Stanley?" he asked with no expressions. "Yes I'm Nikky Stanley" I said as Sam and I immediately got up. "How is she?" I asked, the doctor took off his cap and looked down. "She couldn't make it the injuries was too deep.im sorry we've done everything we could" he said slowly then crossed the corridor quietly. I was dumbfounded, my face became blank, my legs stopped working causing me to fall on my knees and hit tears poured down on my cheeks. "Mom….what am I going to do without you… " I said weekly as my hands touched the floor. I felt a pair of arms gently wrap around me and a soft kiss on my hair. "She was the only family left…" I said heartbroken whipping my tears away with my arm. "I'm sorry my dear" said Sam, resting his head on mine gently stroking my hair. "Come on Nikky, I'll take you home" he said softly helping my shaking body to get up. We got in the bus back home, suddenly happy memories rushed through my mind, tears rolled down and started to whimper. Sam turned his head to me, he passed his arm behind my shoulders and I head in his chest to hide this waterfall. I felt him slowly embracing me, saying nothing. Then the bus stopped and came the moment we have to get down. I slowly got down the stairs with Sam helping me not to miss a step. "You're pale, you should eat something" said Sam as I weekly opened the door, "I'm not really hungry Sam" I said with an empty look in my eyes. "I know it doesn't give the wa't to eat but you need to, sit down I'll show you something, where can I find an iron and an iron board?" he said helping me to sit down. "You're really kind but I'm not in the mood for a magic trick I'm sorry Sam" I said lifting myself a bit to sit crossed-legs. "It's not a magic trick dea, I'll cook" he said smiling a bit. "Alright then, you'll find the iron and the iron and the board behind the door next to the fridge, help yourself also in the fridge and cupboards to find what you'll need" I said sofly, starring at the brown wooden floor covered with a beige carpet. I felt empty inside but I still had hope that my mom comes in the living telling by any miracle that she woke up and it was just a joke, but she wasn't coming… I then heard the sound of the iron heating up against something, surprised I got my head up and saw Sam with an apron toasting cheese sandwiches with the iron, it actually made me laugh a bit thinking of how ingenious it was. "Funny isn't it? I used to do that since I was a child when my parents wasn't back at noon, here have one" he smiled handing me one. "You're a genius Sam" I said slowly taking the sandwich from his hand, I eximinated it and it looked like it was just out from the oven. I put the hot food in my mouth, chewing slowly to not waste the taste. "Do you like it?" he asked crashing the iron on another sandwich. I swallowed and looked at him "I don't like it, I love it" I said smiling. An ear to ear smile appeared on his face, "glad to know it" he said putting the last one in a plate and unplugged the iron. "Sam ?" I asked on a serious tone. "Yes my dear?" he said putting the plate on the table in front of the sofa and sat next to me taking a sandwich and started eating it. "Thank you, for being here… I don't know what I would have done alone" I said then took another bite of my sandwich. "It's nothing really, I mean, I know what is it and being alone in those kind of moments is not a good thing" he said putting a hand on my knee in sing of reassurance. "You lost your parents too?" I asked looking at him in a soft expression. "My grandparents, my parents died after my birth, I didn't knew them but my grandpa died from a cancer and my grandma died from grief of the lost the lost of grandpa" he said finishing his sandwich. "I'm sorry…" I said taking another sandwich. "I've been through it, but even if they're not physically here" he said taking one of my hand and put it on my rib cage where my heart is. "they're still in my heart, tho I can see them in my imagination, the only thing is to believe it, and I'm sure, you can see her when ever you want" he said posing a hand on my shoulder. "I'll try it, most of all try to believe" I said with a smile but my teary eyes betrayed it. We spend some more hours trying to lighten up the mood which worked a bit then Sam looked down with a sorrowful expression on his face. "What is it Sam?" I asked with concern, "tomorrow, I have to leave" he said slowly. "What? Why?" I asked as tears formed again, he turned his head to look at me but when he saw my eyes, I felt like he couldn't stand it so he immediately looked away. "Well, you know I'm moving around, town to town" he said playing with his fingers. "B.. But you can stay here if you want to" I said putting a hand on his. "I don't want to be a bother for you Nikky" he said not daring to look up. "No you're not, I really enjoy your company" I said rubbing my thumb against his warm back of hand. "All right, I'll stay but if ever I'm a bother, tell me and I'll leave" he said finally looking up. "Thank you, and I'm sure you'll never be a bother also, you know, my mom…" I paused taking a deep breath followed by a whimper, he knew I was about to cry, so he took me in a warm hug. "She would've like you" I said as I felt his shirt got wetter as tears poured.
