- Day 111

Did I expect too much? I had thought this day would simply be the second day of the tournament. I could sit down with the others, watch the fights, see those four improving further and maybe make some money on the side. Was that really too much to ask? I guess it was, considering the mess that happened as a direct result of one of the competitors dying the night before. Apparently the lizard-man, Poryuluchiki, had been assassinated late last night. Although "assassinated" might not be the right word for it.

Myself and the rest of the group had arrived at the entrance to the coliseum, only to see the lizard-man's desiccated corpse hanging from above the entryway. The strange part of it, ignoring that most people would probably find the hanging corpse of a lizard-man strange in general, is the way he was attached to the wall. The back of his entire body had been melted and practically fused with the wall.

After his initial shock, Ven asked me if there was anything I could do. Apparently he had heard about my actions with Returner from one of the other residents at some point and was wondering if I could do the same for Poryuluchiki. Though I was curious about why he cared enough about the lizard-man to ask me this, I figured now wasn't the time. Especially considering I couldn't do what he had requested. Maybe if he'd died more recently, but his soul was nowhere to be seen and I sort of need that to do anything.

Unless whoever killed him did something with his soul, that would mean the poor reptile was most likely killed some time ago. I asked Ven who his opponent would have been and he told me that it would have been a man by the name of Cirik, one of the people who were given a free pass to the second round. It would be simple to assume that he was the one who did it and it would match up with there being no murders outside of the matches during the first round but something just didn't add up. My {Intuition} seemed to agree with me.

I decided that since there wasn't enough evidence to go off, I'd have to be satisfied with putting some precautions in place for next time. I made a few blood clones and instructed them to spy on the competitors, leaving one for each remaining competitor.

The tournament was forced to start later than expected since the guards had to question everyone about Poryuluchiki's murder, however it was wrapped up within the hour with seemingly no explanation. It appeared that they just wanted to move on and since Poryuluchiki was a lizard-man and had no ties in the city, nobody really cared.

When we got to our seats I took a quick look to the left and saw that the old couple had returned for the second day. He actually turned his head to face me this time and nodded his head in greeting. I returned the greeting, if only because I could respect someone who looked after their body like that well into their elderly years.

The woman and her three children on the right of us hadn't shown up however. I suppose that's to be expected when the person you wanted to win is knocked out of the running in the first round. Instead of them, a new group have taken their seats. A middle aged man with a large stomach, black hair and a stereotypical villain moustache. The kind of facial hair you can twirl around your finger while maniacally laughing at the girl tied to the train tracks. Next to him is a young woman with similarly dark hair and a much more slender physique. If I had to assume, I'd say she was his daughter.

Standing behind them is a woman in a black cloak, covering everything but the strands of red hair flowing from beneath her hood. With hair like that, the hood would be pointless. Anyone could pick her out of the crowd, even with just a small amount of hair showing. It's not like other people with black cloaks also have flowing red hair.

I was drawn away from the suspicious woman when the announcer began to speak. He quickly explained that they would be getting straight into the matches due to the earlier disturbance. The first fight of the day was Dou once again, facing off against one of the competitors who skipped to the second round. A female with both of her clearly enchanted swords already drawn. Unfortunately for both her and Dou, from the strange feeling they were giving off, I could tell they had been bought from the Wight's store.
