26. The Old Manor

The next day after seeing Victor, Kaine found out that the other will be busy for the next who-knows-when. He received the message from one of Victor's subordinate, he didn't really feel anything about the news but felt a bit confused that the other left him his (Victor) contacts.

Ever since his rebirth, Kaine always distanced himself from others and would never expect too much of them. He doesn't rely on people too much, doesn't trust too much, or show his feelings very much. He knew that those 'too much' would hurt him one way or another. After his rebirth, he understood that pain is truly the greatest teacher in the world.

Kaine needed power and people who would be loyal to only him, the first step to do that was to get the people who oppose him of being the heir on his side. Thus, he needed to work in the company.

Today was weekend, he didn't need to come to school. He decided that he would go to his grandpa to ask for a position in the company. It's also been quite while since he's seen his grandfather.

"Go to the old manor." Kaine ordered the driver.

"Yes, young master." The driver replied respectfully to Kaine, and starting the car.

The old manor is just as it's name, it is old, it may be old but this manor is still a fine and a beautiful manor. It has garden, pool, and a very large yard. This manor was neither too small or too big, it was the right size. Since small, Kaine had always liked this place which filled with happy memories. Unlike his siblings, he is actually very close to his grandpa, Kaine would always visit him at least once a month. His grandpa has always been fond of himself, resulting in doing whatever Kaine asks and pampered him very much.

During Kaine's last life, his grandpa opposed of his relationship with Lance saying that the man was only using him, but Kaine never listened and was angry at his grandpa for saying so. After that day, Kaine never visited his grandpa and would always ignore him. Unfortunately after he did, Ulfred (Kaine's grandpa) got sick and died when Kaine was 20 years old. Until the very last moment, Kaine never visited him.

Thinking of that moment, Kaine's mood turned gloomy. He was sad that he didn't listen to his dear grandfather whom he always loved. In the end, he didn't listen to someone that has known him for his whole life for someone that showed him a little bit of kindness.

The driver, who felt Kaine's mood asked, "Is something wrong, young master?"

Kaine looked up and replied, "Just thinking of the past."

Before they had any more conversation, they've already arrived.
