"Be home by 8 P.M. tomorrow." That was the text I got from my father the other day. That 8 P.M was minutes away and I am fully prepared. I guess. I was in front of the house's gates but I was not sure I can cross them though. However, I had to. So I just hit the D on my car's transmitter and passed the gates.
"Welcome back, Miss." The voice in the speaker said as I rang the bell. Nanny Bella was waiting for me behind the doors.
"Oh, sweetheart." She opened her arms for me and I gladly embraced her.
"Nanny!" I hugged her tighter, maybe things would be better than I expect anyway. We broke apart.
"They are waiting for you inside." She said with her smiling, soft eyes as always. Then she took my hand in hers. "Good luck." She applied a light pressure on my hand and then let go to escort me to the dinning room. The more I got further through the hallways, my stomach twisted in knots until I saw who are on the table and I almost forgot how to walk. I stopped at the entrance of the dinning room as I locked eyes with Adam."Mandy, please. Come on in. Have a seat." My father gestured to an empty chair next to Adam and I took it. My father gestured for the people to start servicing. With everyone's eyes on us, my parents' and his parents'. Once it was the six of us only in the room, the fathers exchanged looks and my father cleared his through to start talking. "So." He paused. "I assume you already know why we are all here." I let a petty laugh and Adam eyed me. Dad gave a look in my direction and kept going. "We are here to find a way to fix the scandal that happened, thanks to you. So, please show some manners."
"Scandal?" I promised myself I will be cool about it.
"Yes, my dear. The-" Adam's mother laughed on her words as if she telling a joke. "The public love confession."
"And how is that a scandal? If I am actually dating someone and I just tell people?" I took a sip of water.
"Yet, I don't think the public need to know about it, at least not in such a ridiculous way." Adam's mother, Elizabeth kept talking.
"And what exactly do you think is the suitable way for this, mother?" That was Adam.
"An official engagement announcement maybe? However, a fast engagement like that when you just broke off yours a couple of weeks ago doesn't seem appropriate." Elizabeth argues further.
"Mother!" Adam called.
"I think your mother is right, Adam." That was my father's turn. "Aren't you even the slightest concerned about your reputation? Huh? Both of you are now the main chatting interest in our circle of friends and acquaintances." I stood up with these words. Once again people's opinion.
"With all due respect, I made this decision and I have no regrets. I know for a fact that you all here have the same thought, and if my decision will bring Adam or his family any troubles, then just consider it never happened. My apologies. Now, if you excuse me, I don't think we will reach any where with this." I turned around to leave.
"Mandy." Adam stood up and held my hand trying to stop me from leaving. I turned in his direction. Running my hand on his check. I smiled, knowing that even if this all became just a dream; it was a sweet one that I loved.
"No matter what. I never regretted and will never regret loving you." I let my hand slide from his check to his hand to let my hand free. I feel my checks are going hot and my eyes are watering. Nope, not here Mandy, I told myself. I got out of the house as soon as I could that I practically ran with Adam's voice calling my name from behind. I let my car get back to life and take me away from this place. My eyes are blur from the tears, but I couldn't stop. I want to escape the whole world if I could, at least just for just one moment. Anger fueled my sadness that my tears were running. I didn't realize how fast I was going until a car stopped in front of me and I had to stop that I nearly hit my head. I didn't have the energy to do anything else, so my head just remained on the steering wheel. For a moment I felt like it was okay. It will be over when I get home, just a moment to rest. However, that silence didn't last for long. I snapped back to reality when someone came banging on the car window. I looked up and it was Adam. Great! I just left him back there to find him right in front of me, when I was all done for. I sighed, and unlocked the car door. He opened the door and he looked worried.
"Oh my god, are you okay? Did you hurt your head?" He was checking my head, my hands.
"What?" Right! I was kind of dead on the steering wheel a while ago. I smiled and unplugged the seatbelt. He looked worried still. I tried to make my way out of the car for some fresh air but I stumbled on my own steps that Adam just helped me stand right by the second. I couldn't stand any longer so I just dropped to the floor with my back to my car and Adam dropped next to me, looking worried. He went back to his car and came back with a bottle of water. I took a sip of it and gave it back to him. He still looked worried though. I flashed a re-assuring smile.
