37. Special Surprise💝

Mira and Vikranth were standing in front of a small bakery making her wonder what could possibly be the 'surprise' part about this. She turned to Vikranth and found him looking up at the clocktower right behind the bakery. Before she could ask him anything, Vikranth said,

''Come on!''

and walked ahead into a narrow street. Mira followed and asked him, ''Eh...Vikranth, where are we going?''

''You'll find out!'' he said. Next they turned left into another alley and walked until they approached a middle-aged man with long hair who waved at Vikranth. Mira silently followed.

''Hey man! Kenny right?'' Vikranth said and shook hands with the man. Mira smiled awkwardly. It was then that she realised that they had come to the back entrance of the clocktower.

''That's me! So you're the one who called, Vick... yea?''

''Vicky, yea!'' The man turned to Mira and Vikranth added that she was a friend.

He nodded in acknowledgement and asked, ''Right then, follow me.'' Vikranth and Mira followed the man as he opened a wooden door that lead to a flight of stairs inside the clocktower, which was poorly lit. As they climbed up, they heard the man's voice echo, ''Watch your step, guys!''

After a few minutes of climbing the stairs, they reached the first level, where the clock was located. As they walked out, the man gave them a brief history of the clock tower which was designed based on a bigger one in the city and not really open for tourists. When Mira asked Vikranth how he managed to get them here, he simply said,

''I have some connections...'' and smirked.

''Well, I hope it's not illegal, I don't plan to go to the police station again...'' she said.

''Nah...don't worry, besides most people don't even know they can come up here.''

''I'm not convinced...'' Mira muttered to herself. But secretly, she was jumping in joy inside and couldn't believe that Vikranth actually brought her here on her wish.😍

Vikranth went up to the man and asked him if they could go to the next level, where the balcony was located. He said it wasn't possible as he didn't have access to the keys for the next level of stairs. Vikranth said it was fine and shook his hands again with the man before he left.

''You'll got an hour, no longer or extra charges!'' he said and went back down the flight of stairs.

Mira turned to Vikranth

''Extra charges?!Vikranth! How much did you pay to get us here?!''

''Not much...but it's worth it...look at the view, come here.'' he said. Mira walked up to the railing and saw the entire suburb from there. Vikranth was right, the view was simply breathtaking.

''You know... I wasn't actually serious when I said I wanted to come up here that day.''

''Hmm...but for the first time, you asked for something and I didn't want to disappoint ...but we could go back down if you're scared of heights or something...''

''Are you kidding? This is awesome! You could see the entire city from here...''

''Wait..'' he said as he walked to below the top balcony. Mira followed. He somehow climbed up the railing, leaving Mira flummoxed with her mouth open.

''Vikranth...''

''Give me your hand.'' he said instead. Mira gave him her bag first, then gave him her hand as he helped her up, she crossed over the railing and landed safely on the balcony.
