1. start of something new

Maddi Emerson stood patiently while waiting for her two best friends to come back with their food. They were at a birthday party and wanted to eat outside, away from the crowd. When they came back, they sat at the table and began to eat.
"Maddi, when are you coming back to our school?" asked Cam, the outward one in the group. "You ask me that every time see me!" Maddi laughed. "But really, can you come back?" questioned Jo, the friendly and innocent girl. Maddi looked at them with uncertainty and replied, "I don't know, but I'll graduate there for sure!" Cam and Jo were a bit disappointed in her answer, for they were hoping she would come back next year. Cam and Maddi were freshman and Jo was a sophomore.
Maddi began doing homeschool two years ago due to finance problems, bad grades, trouble in school, and other personal reasons. She's been going to that private school ever since she was in kindergarten, so you can understand why her friends always missed her so much.
After the party, they decided to hang out for a while at Cam's house. Her parents drove them there, then they headed straight for Cam's room. Cam tried to fix her room up a bit since it was a little messy, then they all laid down and just talked through a number of subjects. "Guys," Cam said, "I'm so discouraged. Have you heard about what Claudia has been saying about us?" "Yeah..." they both replied. "It really bothers me, but I don't want to let it get to me." said Maddi. "I feel sorry for you, Cam. It was so messed up of Claudia to do that to you. But don't worry, you'll definitely find a better guy than Dylan." encouraged Jo. "Thanks. Well, lets try to get off this depressing subject about me and move on to something happier." said Cam. Maddi thought for a moment, "Yeah, let's move on to Jo's love life!" They both giggled as Jo gave them a look. "Girl, what love life you talking about?" "Oh, you have more than one?" Maddi and Cam laughed even harder as Jo began to laugh with them. "How about you, Maddi, huh?" said Jo. "Guys, you know me. And you'd be the first people I'd tell if I ever liked anyone." "What about that Leo Davis? He's a handsome one. And you're both mestizos!" Maddi gave a straight face. "Just cause we're both mestizos doesn't mean we're perfect for each other." "Well, still you two look really good together." "Hah, I don't think that'll ever happen."
After some hours of talking, they decided to go home. When Maddi got home, she got deep into thought, and started thinking about how lonely she felt. She really did have no love life. She felt so lonely. All of her friends have been in a relationship before and she's the only one who hasn't.
She started thinking about Leo Davis. Cam and many other people would tease her so much that she was actually starting to get interested in him. She could barely believe it herself. Was she really falling for Leo Davis? The boy she used to know a long time ago and has probably forgotten all about her?
