3. the basketball game

[Present Day]

*ring ring*

"Hello?" said Maddi.

"Maddi! Wanna go to the first basketball game for this season? He's probably gonna be there." Cam said sneakily.

"Cam?" Maddi thought for a moment if she should go. "Uhh...I don't know. Should I?

"Yes! I know you want to."

Maddi paused for moment. Of course she wanted to see him again! She just knows she'll make a fool of herself in front of him. But she took the chance anyways. She hasn't seen him in a long time.

"Okay. I'll go."

"Great! I'll pick you up."

Maddi got ready, then Cam and her mom came to pick her up. When they arrived at the gym, Maddi was so nervous. There were six different courts in the gym. It was huge. She kept looking and looking to see if he was there. Then she found him. He was playing at the court all the way on the left side. But her team was playing all the way on the right side.

She tried to steal some glances at him as she walked to the other court. Her heart was beating so fast, she thought it would beat out of her chest.

She took her seat and couldn't see him anymore. They were too far. She tried to enjoy the game and cheer really loud. It was a good first game. They almost lost, but they caught up.

After the game, Cam started encouraging Maddi to talk to Leo.

"Look! Look! He's over there!"

"Okay, that's nice."

"Aww, you two look so cute together!"

"Okay."

"You should talk to him!"

"Uh, no that's not gonna--"

"Leo!"

Maddi started blushing as Leo looked that way.

"Hey Leo!" Cam yelled again.

He started walking towards them. Maddi's heart was beating faster the closer he got. She thought she was gonna faint.

"Hey, Cam! Hey, Maddi!" Leo said with a smile in his face.

"So you're on the basketball team again this year, huh?" Cam asked.

"Yeah, I love playing basketball. How did your team do?"

As their conversation went on, Maddi stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say. Her heart was racing and she couldn't bring herself to say anything. Just then, Leo turned to her and started talking to her instead.

"So how have you been, Maddi?"

"I-I'm doing good. Uh..how did your game go?" Maddi tried to ask in a casual way.

"We lost, but it's okay. We'll get them next time."

"Yeah, you guys can do it."

Leo looked at her and smiled.

She smiled back and didn't know what else to say.

"So...we should keep in touch." Leo said.

"Yeah!" Cam eagerly replied, as she quickly wrote down a number on a piece of paper.

"Here's Maddi's number!" She said as she gave the paper to Leo.

Maddi gave her a look and nudged her.

"What about you??" Maddi asked.

Cam didn't hear her since she was so caught up in the fact that Maddi and Leo are getting closer. She stood and smiled and the both of them. Suddenly, Maddi nudged her again.
