It was seven years ago, in elementary school, when Maddi and Leo first met. Leo was in a different class, since he was older, but Maddi's mom was his teacher. Maddi would always go to her mom's class after school and saw him everyday. They were young and never thought of liking each other. They were just friends. Suddenly, Leo had to leave the school. His parents couldn't afford it anymore and had sent him to a cheaper private school not too far away. He gained friends there easily since everyone was so friendly. But from that moment, Maddi and Leo never saw each other again.

A few years later, Maddi decided to go to her school's basketball game. It was the championships, so she thought she ought to be there to support. It just so happens that Leo was on a basketball team and was playing against their team.

The moment she saw him, she could barely believe she was staring at the Leo she used to go to school with.

It was an exciting game. She cheered hard for her team, but kinda wanted to cheer for Leo, too.

Maddi's team won. Immediately after the game, Leo's old schoolmates started running up to him, hugging him, and asking how he's been and all.

Maddi became a bit shy and couldn't bring herself up to him.

"Why am I so shy right now?" she thought to herself. "It's just Leo." She took a glance at his face and suddenly felt a waterfall of butterflies all over her body. "Ugh, I can't do it. But...it's rude not to say hi. He's my old schoolmate after all." She slowly started walking towards the crowd that covered him. Then she quickly turned around and started walking back. "Why is this so hard? Is saying hi really this hard? Seriously, why am I like this?"

"I'll just look for my parents so we can leave." Maddi looked for her parents and couldn't find them. So she sat on the bleachers hoping they'd show up. People started leaving, then her parents finally came. They saw Leo's parents and decided to talk to them. Now, Maddi had no choice but to talk to Leo.

"Hi, Leo." she said shyly.

"Hey, Maddi! How are you?" he asked with a smile.

"I'm doing alright. How's school?"

"It's been good. I still miss everyone here, though."

She smiled as she tried to think of what to say next. But he beat her to it.

"How is it in school?"

"It's the same. Just that there's a few students that left, but new students came, too."

It was hard for Maddi to keep eye contact with Leo, but she tried. Then she noticed something. He seemed as shy as she was but he was covering it up by keeping the conversation going. "Man, why are we both shy?" she thought to herself.

Leo's parents then were about to leave. They said goodbye and started walking out the door.

Leo took a quick glance at Maddi before they walked out. Maddi looked back, kinda wishing she wasn't so shy. Then they left.

"I wonder if we'll ever see each other again." Maddi thought.
