When Scorpius arrived at school and saw Albus standing under a tree with none other than Polly Chapman, he started to get worried. They both seemed to be angry and when Albus saw Scorpius he motioned him to come over.
"Scorpius can you believe that its her fault that everyone now thinks we're dating!" Albus sounded extremely angry and it hurt Scorpius a little. "Ha! I can't believe it!"
Polly looked at Scorpius, irritation plastered on her face. "Uh, err." Scorpius muttered.
"All I did was joke about you two dating. My friend said she thought she saw you two holding hands on the same day that I saw you. I didn't say I saw you I just joked that you were going on a date." Polly huffed. "I didn't say, 'Oh yeah, they are a couple they told me so themselves.'!"
Scorpius and Polly looked at Albus. "What?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't think everyone would find out and take what I said seriously." She said. "I still think you overreacted just a little."
"Well thanks to you, my sister knows, Rose knows and everyone else thinks it's true!" Albus yelled.
"I'm sorry! Can't you just deny it anyway?" Polly asked.
"No! No, I can't!" Albus sounded hurt.
"Why not?"
"Because it's true!"
Scorpius stood in silence. For what ever reason, he felt like crying. He bit his lip and looked at the ground, head in his hands, hoping to make the feeling stop. It didn't and Albus soon noticed that something was wrong.
"Scorpius?" He heard Albus' worried voice echo in his ears. "Scorpius are you ok?"
That's when it hit him. The worry in Albus' voice. The way he sounded hurt and angry whenever he was yelling at Polly. Everything from the past three days just came and hit him all at once. It hit hard.
"Scorpius?" Albus said again. "Scorpius say something please. Please?"
Scorpius didn't know what to do. He couldn't just break down here right out front of the school. He looked up briefly, already feeling a tear roll down his cheek. He found himself running away. He didn't look back to see if Albus or Polly were following him. He half hoped that Albus was running after him. He didn't want to be alone. He stopped running after a while. He had no idea where he had gone. He found himself at the nearby park, sitting down on an empty bench next to a small lake. Scorpius sat cross-legged on the bench wiping tears from his eyes and sniffling, covering his face with his hands and letting himself cry softly.
Scorpius felt someone sit next to him, wrapping an arm around him and pulling him closer. He looked up and saw Albus sitting next to him, looking at some ducks swimming across the lake. Scorpius leaned closer into Albus and closed his eyes.
"You didn't have to come after me." Scorpius said quietly.
"Well, here I am." Albus sighed.
There was a moment of silence. "I'm sorry." Scorpius mumbled, looking up at Albus.
"For what?" Albus asked looking back down at Scorpius.
Scorpius shrugged looking down. "I don't know." Scorpius didn't know what to say. "Making you late for school?"
Albus laughed softly. "Making me late for school? Really Scorpius? You know I could care less about that!"
"Sorry."
"Scorpius, you don't have to be sorry for anything." Albus cooed, his eyes were soft, sad.
"Don't I?" Scorpius looked up into Albus' deep green eyes, his eyesight blurry with tears.
"No." Albus smiled at Scorpius. "Why don't we go out, find a nice café. You need a break from school."
Scorpius sat up, not liking the idea. "You mean skip school? I don't think ours parents would like that very much, Albus."
"I'm starting to think you don't like the idea either." Albus said, giggling a little.
"You're right, I don't."
"That's why we should go. Break a few rules for once in your life!" Albus said, turning so that he was facing Scorpius. "Come on Scorpius, it'll be fun! I bet our parents won't even care anyway! Mine barely pay attention to me so they won't care about it."
Scorpius groaned, smiling a little.
"Just us two." Albus said, leaning closer to Scorpius. "On a date."
Scorpius laughed a little. He leaned forward, closing the gap between the two, catching Albus' lips in a short kiss.
"Is that a yes?" Albus asked once they parted.
"Yes!" Scorpius smiled. "But only this once."
"Only this once, ok got it." Albus said smiling, he stood up and held out his hand for Scorpius to take.
Scorpius took Albus' hand, standing up. They walked to the nearby shopping strip and found a nice empty café. They walked in, still holding hands, and sat at a small table tucked away in a corner. It made Scorpius nervous, all he hoped was that no one saw them out of school. Scorpius didn't want to break his almost perfect school record. The only time he had done something wrong was when he punched this kid who was twice his size for bullying Albus. It was extremely out of character for him, landing him a few detentions. Though there was something about it that he liked, it excited him. They both ordered some food, talking a little.
"Are you ok, Scorpius? I want an honest answer." Albus asked cautiously. It was clear he was nervous to bring the topic up.
Scorpius bit his lip and thought for a moment, unsure of what to say. Instead he just shook his head.
"Talk to me, Scorpius. Please. I want you to tell me what's wrong. I need to know what's wrong." Albus said, reaching for Scorpius' hand from across the table.
"I-I don't know. I'm scared, terrified. I feel like something bad is going to ruin everything, like it always does. It's like the world hates me. And what makes it worse is that It's been years since my mum died and I still can't get over it. I just don't know what to do." Scorpius told Albus trying not to cry, starting to get tears in his eyes again.
"Hey, hey, Scorpius its ok! Nothing is going to happen." Albus cooed. "You told me yourself, whatever happens, we will be ok."
Scorpius nodded slowly, wiping his eyes with his free hand, just as the waitress bought out their food. Scorpius stared at his plate of food in silence. Albus was watching him and Scorpius could tell, trying to ignore it. Trying to focus on his thoughts that whirled around in his head. He couldn't make sense of them.
"Thank you." Scorpius blurted out randomly.
Albus tilted his head. "For what?"
Scorpius shrugged. "For this. For everything."
Albus smiled. "Thank you too." He said softly. "I don't know what I would do without you."
"Me either, Albus. Me either." Scorpius said, finally looking up and meeting Albus' eyes.
They both smiled lovingly at each other, enjoying the rest of their date. Once they finished their food, they ended up back in the park, walking side by side.
"This was fun." He sighed.
"You glad you decided to do this?"
"Yeah, yeah I am."
"Good. I'm glad too."
