Part Two

"Alice!"

She blinks her eyes open, confused as to why she had been woken up so early.

"Alice! Wake up your letter is here!" her mum, Tina Scamander, calls from downstairs. Without second thought, she jumps off her bed and runs downstairs to grab the gold letter. Newt sits at the table drinking tea while Alice takes a seat next to her mom on the couch. She inspects the envelope before slowly breaking the seal and opening it.

She starts reading with her mum looking over her shoulder.

Dear Alice Scamander,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizarding. Students shall be required to report to the Chamber of Reception upon arrival. We await your owl no later than 31 July.

Please make your way to Kings Cross Station and onto platform 9 3/4 where you will meet the Hogwarts Express. School will begin on 1 September.

We very much look forward to receiving you as part of the new generation of Hogwarts heritage.

Yours Sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Alice squeals in excitement. "I'm going to Hogwarts!"

"Congratulations sweetheart!" Tina says, hugging her shoulders.

"Good because it's the world's best wizarding school," Newt adds.

"I'm sorry, you meant to say Ilvermorny," Tina retorts.

"No, mum, he meant Hogwarts," Alice corrects, having read his mind by mistake. Whenever she feels overwhelmed or any powerful emotion, the wall she's created to block out the voices slips. This hasn't happened many times, as she doesn't leave the house very often.

"What have I taught you about reading someone's mind without their permission," Tina scolds.

"Sorry, mum," she replies, still looking at the letter as if it would disappear in her hand.

Tina nudges her. "What are you waiting for? We gotta get to Diagon Alley."

She sets the letter down on the coffee table. "Give me a minute!" She races back upstairs to get ready.

Much older now, nearly 11, Alice is a tall girl, currently standing at five-foot-three and still growing. Her skin is a lovely olive tone and dotted with freckles. Her eyes were still that bright shade of green, standing out from her black eyelashes. She usually wore her black curly hair in a mess around her face. But, in case she met any new friends today, she wanted to look nice. So she threw her hair into a ponytail. She put on her favorite yellow sweater and some straight-legged jeans, casual yet neat.

They used floo powder to make the long journey to Diagon Alley much shorter. Upon arrival, excitement struck Alice. She'd been here before and watched the older students purchase their school supplies. But it was finally her turn and she couldn't wait. The street was bustling, busy with students and their families.

"Your father and I will get all your boring old books. I want you to go to Ollivanders and get your wand," Tina says.

"That would be great, thanks mum," she sighs, nerves hitting her.

Her first wand. Well, not that she hasn't stolen her parents a few times for some fun. But this one would be hers.

Alice walks into Ollivanders. She looks around in awe at the beautiful shop. Every wall is lined with blue, green, red, and brown boxes of wands. She could smell the dust and old wood in the air. "Hello?" she calls out.
