Your Friend

Having woken up a little later that day, Alice walks down the great hall to join her friends at the Gryffindor table for breakfast. Only this time, she noticed Harry was missing. As her short heels clack against the stone floors, her friends recognize the sound and turn to face her.

"Morning," she says politely.

"Good morning," Hermione replies as Ron mumbles a tired greeting.

"Where's Harry?" She asks.

"Quidditch practice," Ron replies.

"Cool."

Owls begin swooping into the rafters, delivering mail to the students. Ferguson drops off a heavily stuffed envelope in front of Alice. As always, the large bird gains dozens of stares as he flies up to the rafters to perch with the smaller owls.

Alice opens the envelope. The letter reads:

Hello Alice,

I think the mooncalves have been missing you. Could you tell me what you used to add to their food? They aren't eating as much, especially the younger ones. I found a pair of your earrings in the Niffler's dens and I have sent them back to you. Your mother sent you the beads you asked for. She said you wanted to make friendship bracelets. I'm glad you're making friends. Do well in classes. We miss you, especially the mooncalves.

Signed,
Your Father

She chuckles at the letter. Her father never did have a way with words, unless writing about creatures. She opens the parcels and sure enough, the items he described are in there. A pair of dangly bow earrings and a box of beads in various colors as well as elastic strings.

"Beads? What for?" Hermione asks.

"Actually I wanted to—"

She is interrupted by a loud squawk and a pebble hitting the floor near her. She looks up at Ferguson is flapping his large wings in confusion. She hears the laughter of an obnoxious voice.

"Draco! Did you see that?! How many points is that?" Pansy says with a snort of laughter.

In her hands, she holds a small pile of pebbles. She looks excitedly at Draco, waiting for his approval. He hums. "Nice job, Pansy. Someone should put down that big ugly bird," he replies, nose turned up.

Alice gets up from her seat, her chest puffed out in anger. "Leave him alone, Pansy," she huffs.

"Or what? Are you going to set a beast loose on me?" She holds up another stone, threatening.
