Styx hated what he was.
He was an ugly monster, and civilians cowered away from him, hunters scoured for his blood.
Styx knew he was a horrible looking creature. He had seen himself and knew this. He would've given anything to never had laid eyes on his reflection and be naive to what everyone hid from.
The monster had midnight black flesh, with his red veins showing from underneath his skin. His eyes were a cloudy grey, but were creepily human and full of raw emotion. His hair cut into his face, the locks of rose thorns leaving scars permanently. Styx was a gigantic creature, and he had heard from terrified humans that he was at least 90 feet tall.
But the thing people feared most about Styx was his heart. It glowed through his dark epidermis, and it beat slowly and unsteadily, like he was on his last breath.
He spent the days alone in a cramped cave. His only hobby and comfort was picturing what his life would be like if he was human, and wallowing in self pity.
The beast didn't even flinch as lighting suddenly struck, and remained loathing his existence. But the shock of his life came in the form of a beautiful young woman. She was shivering and soaking wet from the sudden downpour.
"Hello? Is anyone here?" The human asked.
Styx growled, the high pitched whistle that creeped out of his throat echoing off the walls. The woman shivered slightly, but continued into the cave.
"Go away, naive human."
The woman didn't reply immediately. She stopped in front of Styx, illuminated by the glow of his heart.
"Give me a chance, monster. I know what you what."
"I don't want any of your blood, your wealth, or the eyes of your firstborn. I don't want any sacrifices. It disgusts me just the same." The creature hissed.
"You judge too quickly! I am—"
"Leave now, weakling!" Styx screamed, and he nearly winced at his rasping voices that came from his voiceboxes.
"I'm no weakling. But I'll leave, nevertheless."
And with that, the wishing fairy walked out of the cave and dissolved into the rain.
