unspoken

Mandy woke up knowing only one thing.

"I'm not supposed to be here."

The only thing that went through her mind was that one thing, until a few minutes later, she assessed her situation.

1) She wasn't on the Revenge, the name of her crew's ship

2) None of the crew was in sight

3) She was surrounded by water

4) She was pretty sure she was on an island

5) She was sitting in the hand of an absolutely titanic merman

At this, observation, Mandy immediately was on guard, scrambling off the leathery surface and unsheathing her cutlass. The merman tilted his and and gave her a cheesy smile. He started to reach for Mandy, but she quickly attacked his finger with her dagger before retreating into the safety of the tropical forest.

The merman hissed in pain, what was her problem?! He had saved her life, and this was the thanks he got? He cradled his finger for a moment before glancing up. Well, maybe he shouldn't have reached for her.

He started to apologize before biting down on his lip, hard. He wasn't sure how a human could handle his voice if a boat couldn't. But oh, how he wanted to hear her voice, to have a conversation with her.

But she would only be even more horrified at the monster she thought he was. She could only see a giant beast. But she was right. He was a monster. Sirens were designed to destroy and lure people to their deaths.

They seemed to fear and hate each other, without a word. He wasn't going to talk, and Mandy only had violence in mind. They were both dumb with the situation at hand.

But their hatred was clear, even unspoken.
