Since the age of eleven when her best friend Ashley Caplan had introduced her to them, Yrsa Cooper had loved reading Muggle novels. Her own love life, however, was not much short of non-existent which wasn't a fact that had much bothered her. That is, until (mostly with the intent of joking) she made the mistake to ask Marlene McKinnon to foresee the future of her romantic relationships during Divinations class and was told that she had been made blind to the opportunities around her by a self-built prison.
Haunted by the Eight of Swords, Yrsa becomes obsessed with discovering the unseen opportunities that supposedly surrounded her and soon realizes that they have been right in front of her all along in the shape of a werewolf called Remus Lupin. And thus, she may just find herself in a tragedy to rival Romeo and Juliet.

don't be intimidated by the 100+ chapters because THEY ARE ALL WORTH IT. this book is literally so amazing for a number of reasons. it's going to be hard to read other fanfictions now because they're not going to be nearly as good as this onee. this is definitely my new favorite fanfiction of all time (still tied with philophobia though because i could never decide between the two).
alright, what makes this book so great is the fact that it doesn't focus on yrsa's relationship with remus entirely. the author did a phenomenal job with focusing on her career as an investigator and i'm a sucker for criminal minds so i obviously loved reading about her figuring out crimes and sh!t. so if you like criminal minds, you'll LOVE this book for sure. it doesn't focus too much on her time at hogwarts as the majority of the book takes place after they graduate and as yrsa advances in her career. i didn't think i was going to like that, but i ended up loving that.
there was a fair number of times i wanted to stab the author though, so be prepared for some major plot twists. like i NO JOKE threw my phone across my bedroom on accident. the author really outdid herself with connecting and engaging her audience with the story. i also like how yrsa actually had a prejudice against werewolves, and how she overcomes that. i found that really beautiful and it also inspires us not to necessarily hate characters (or people per se) that may have different beliefs then we do because they may be really nice people but were just raised differently.
also the author's faceclaim for remus lupin was matthew grey gubler and that's the only correct faceclaim for remus lupin so-
maturity rating: mature ✔️
yrsa does investigate a case dealing with (trigger warning!) rape. she investigates this case for a few chapters and the author does put a trigger warning at the beginning of the chapter. however later in the book, the subject of rape and sexual assault comes up again so i'd just like you to know that before going into it. stay safe everyone! <3
