—Third Person POV.—

'Quiet' was probably the best way to describe this night— The sheep where sleeping in the fenced area, their wool illuminated by the dim stars through the darkness.

The moon didn't show tonight but that didn't seem to bother the guards walking by on their shift. One of them held a torch in his free hand, their steps in partial sync as they passed by the fence.

Their chatter filled in for the crackles of fire, helmet covered heads turning back and forth as they searched for any source of disturbance.

"You're sure it was over here?" One of the men question, turning to his partner.

"I could have sworn.." The other replies, face scrunching up as the light from the fire falls on his eyes and he blinks, pushing the other guys hand away.

"Geez, might as well blind me next time." He grunts and causes the guard to chuckle sheepishly.

"Sorry." He proclaims, swiftly getting hushed when his partner comes to a halt and raises a hands to his lips in a 'be quiet' manner.

"Did you hear that..?" The torch-less guard questions, staring ahead with furrowed brows.

After a moment, everything is still— And a rustle to the right causes the guards heads to snap in its direction.

With steady breaths, the man steps forward, reaching out with his arm to shine the light into the forest.

Unbeknownst to any of them, a shadow creeps over the fence behind their distracted figures— Slitted eyes flickering cautiously back and forth before fully turning its head towards the sleeping patches of wool below.

A cry from one of the lambs fly through the air, the guards heads quickly turning towards the noise and shouting out.

But it was all too late, the creature snatched up the small animal before bolting over the fence on the opposite side and disappearing back into the shadows of the forest.

It left the guards in silence, eyes wide as they stepped forward.

The creature hadn't left anything behind to indicate it was ever there and one of the guards grunt in frustration "The damned thing is gone." He states.

The other subtly nods in agreement as his partner turns to continue on their trail.

And with squinted eyes, he places his free hand on the fence— Looking into the pen and the fence the animal had jumped earlier.

"Come on! It got what it wants, it won't be back tonight." The man calls and the guard jolts, turning and jogging to catch up with his partner "Yeah, you're right."

Slitted eyes stare as the figures disappear down the trail of their village, jerking its head back to get a better grip on the wailing lamb in its mouth before turning and running farther into the woods.
