—Third Person POV.—
Just out side the gate, standing near the edge at the top of the ramps where the Big Three, heads tilted downwards as they watched the boats break free from their decks.
The sun blazed high through the sky, lighting above the open and stilled water now covered by hundreds of the man made ships.
And as they disappeared in the distance, no one dared say a word— Just choosing to sit in the silence instead.
At least until— "Well this is bad." Nejire comments, cracking through the silence with an obvious statement.
"Yeah.." Mirio's eyes flickered in the direction of the voice, nodding his head in agreement before catching sight of his dark haired friend a few feet away.
"..Why didn't you do it?" Nejire glanced up, brows furrowing in questioning at Mirio's choice of words.
Hearing no response, Mirio raised his hand slightly in reassurance for the bluette before taking a step closer to his downed friend.
"I don't know," Amajiki mutters, stopping Mirio before he could repeat his question "I couldn't."
"I mean, yeah, she did look partially human at the time, but you had orders— And you disobeyed them by setting her free." Mirio pushes causing Amajiki to just shake his head.
"She looked human—" "Don't give me that. Any one of us would've done it because beneath the surface you knew." The blonde quickly debunked Amajiki's half answer.
"So why didn't you?" Mirio repeats his previous question, blue eyes watching with furrowed brows "You actively grabbed your knife and worked at each rope— Cutting and freeing her instead."
An huff fell from the hunters lips, indigo locks brushed to the side by the wind as he shook his head "She looked terrified.." He muttered, more to himself this time.
"The moment she turned away from me, I knew I wouldn't kill her." He finally admits, causing Mirio's head to perk up at the new play of words.
"You said wouldn't that time—" "It doesn't.." Amajiki's voice dies out, falling silent once more.
"I went back the first time telling myself I needed to finish the job.." He confesses, replaying the memory.
"I had her stopped in front of me, the string on my bow pulled back to graze my cheek— I had a clear shot," Amajiki explains, reenacting his movements as he talks.
"And I didn't take it." He breathes, fingers relaxing as if he was shooting an invisible arrow out into the skies overlooking the ocean below.
Mirio pauses, blue eyes following his friends movement as he dropped his arms to his sides again.
"Do you regret it?"
Brushing a hand through his hair and moving his bangs back a little, Amajiki couldn't help but shake his head earnestly "I don't regret any time spent with her.." He mutters, answering himself.
"So just save her like you did before, it's the same! You shot her down and now you just need to cut the ropes again!" Mirio's signature smile had returned, surprising his dark haired friend.
"Plus you have us here to help, no more secrets, we have to do something to stop them." He declares, and Nejire chooses this time to poke her head out from behind the tall blonde.
"—He's right, we can't just sit back and do nothing," Nejire calls, eyes flickering out at the ocean again with doubt in her chest.
"Only thing is, how are we supposed to catch up? We don't have a ride and we don't even know where the nest is!" She argues, brows furrowing as she threw her questions towards her friend.
