Pippa skipped up to the Hufflepuff dorms after lunch the following Saturday. It was a Hogsmede weekend and Pippa was beyond excited. Today was the day her best friend would be going on her very first date. Even though Evie had insisted it was a friendly get together, Pippa knew otherwise.
Pippa had left Evie to get ready while she went for lunch. A meal is best slow cooked, as Pippa always said.
"I'm back," Pippa announced as she entered the dorm. Evie was nowhere to be seen but Pippa smiled at their other dorm mate. Pippa moves towards the closed bathroom door. "Is the princess ready for her ball?" Pippa asked the dark wood.
The bathroom door opened to reveal Evie, still dressed in her pajamas. "I'm not going."
Pippa's expression merged into one of pure horror. "What?" she screeched.
Evie moved past her open-mouthed friend and sat on her bed. "I'm. Not. Going," she repeated, slower this time.
"Why not?! You have to go," Pippa cried. "Amelia, doesn't she have to go?"
Their dorm mate seemed completely uninterested in their situation, not even lifting her head from her book.
Evie had pulled Petal onto her lap, stroking the cat to bring herself some comfort. "I don't want to embarrass myself."
"Why would you?" Pippa asked softly. She sat down beside her friend, scratching Petal's head as she nudges her head into Pippa's hand.
Evie opened her arms, allowing Petal to abandon her for Pippa. "He asked me to Hogsmede out of pity."
"For the last time, he didn't," Pippa insisted. "You need to stop with this self-depriving talk."
"But it's true," Evie groaned, flopping down onto her pillow. "He's seen me in a very... vulnerable state, as a mess. He's trying to cheer me up, and this is the only way he thinks he can."
Pippa smiles sadly, having been told about Evie's incident on the night of her party. "He's seen you like that and he still wants to see you." She shook Evie's knee gently. "He must really like you. He would've left you alone otherwise."
"Are you sure?" Evie mumbled. She sat up again, her eyes focused on Pippa's hand on Petal's white fur.
"Positive," Pippa said. "I saw him alone this morning. He was all smiley and happy. I've never seen him like that when he's on his own."
Evie turned to check the clock on her bedside table. The metal hands showed it was 1:10pm. The Hogsmede departure started ten minutes ago.
Evie sighed heavily. "I feel bad now. He's probably waiting for me and I'm here in my Mickey Mouse pajamas."
"I still don't know who Mikey Mouse is but I'll go find Remus," Pippa smiled. "You get dressed and be ready to leave at 2."
Evie stood up and made her way back into the bathroom. "Yes ma'am!"
