mattias calling. i accept the call and mattia has music blasting in the background. "hey v." "hey..." "so um alejandro called me, that's why i didn't answer." "oh...what did you guys talk about?" i asked. fuck. alejandro probably told him. i mean it's not like a big secret but it's all so weird. "so i guess you now know his adoption story?" "sort of not really, all i know is that his-." i paused. "...he told you about my mom and my tia?" i asked. "yup." "well anyways like i said all i know is that ales parents weren't good parents." i finished. "yeah. life wasn't being good to him until your tia adopted him. he had been put in foster after his parents lost the right to keep him, and he has no known living relatives,as HE told the workers. but he does. in mexico, far out. the workers had trouble finding alejandro's documents and papers and all that stuff so he had to go into foster. he was there for so long, ale couldn't take it anymore." poor ale. "...but yeah not getting into too much detail, your tia helped him a lot." "wow i-i don't know what to say." "i know it's a lot to take in." mattia and i talked for hours. it was now 5 in the morning, without even realizing it. "MATTIA FUCK. ITS 5! school starts in two hours and i gotta wake up at 7." "we have late start today. we start at 10 today." mattia adds. "well i'm going to sleep now." "no no just a little longer please." "ok fine just a little longer." i say. the next thing you know mattia is wanting to facetime. 30 minutes pass. 50. 1 hour. 1 hour and 40 minutes. "mattia i'm ending the call now it's about to be 7 and i'm tired." "ok mamas. see you later." "bye." i say and hang up. i close my eyes and pass out. i eat breakfast and decide to walk to school. i put my earbuds in a play strawberry fields forever by the beatles. "let me take you down 'cause i'm going to strawberry fields...nothing is real...and nothing to get hung about...strawberry fields forever." i start to sing. the bus is over crowded today and another bus has to come and pick the rest of us up. i sit next to christopher, i guess you can say one kid out of three who sits next to me if the seat next to me is empty. without realizing it i fall asleep in his shoulder. "uh venus get up." "um...what?" i ask. "venus, yo get up we are here!" christopher says. "oh shit, sorry about that." i apologize for sleeping on him. "it's fine." i walk out and see mattia. i run up to him with my left over energy. "ttia!" "oh hey." he says. "oh no. you look tired." "yeah. because i decide to text you all night but it was worth it." mattia says. "i know. i should've ended the call or else we wouldn't have been so sleepy. but you know what i enjoyed your company." i say.
