i can see my daughter blooming. she's changing. she started hanging out with mattia again. i feel bad for what happened to her in seventh grade, i told her to do it, to chase her dreams, and she did but in the end she was hurt.

i get in the car and start blasting music.

she's dancing and singing. i hadn't seen her like that in forever. back then when mija was smaller we would put oldies on and drive around at night dancing and singing on the top of our lungs. i miss those days.
"hey do you want some ice cream before we go?"
"uh sure. i'll take mint and chip, please."
i pull over at a thrifty and get out of the car and grab us some ice cream.

my mom just got out of the car do buy us some ice cream. mattia wants to face time? i accept.
"hey mam-."
"what mattia?"
"..mamas...i just wanted to hear your voice."
"uh huh...ok and?"
"what are you doing?"

"uh going over to my tias to help her with her sons upcoming party...and speaking of a party ayonie invited me to her birthday party in two weeks."
"are you inviting me?"
"well would you like to go with me? her parents are out of town and she has a big house and invited a lot of people."
"i see. sure i'll go."
"ok."
"so how-."
i cut mattia off and hang up.
"mija open the door please."
it's my mom outside the door holding two ice cream cones.
"thank you. who was that?"
"who was what?"
"on the phone."
"oh it was mattia."
"what did he want?"
"just called...and i quote "to hear your voice."
"that mattia, so he just randomly started talking to you?"
i want to tell her about the bet but then she wouldn't let me hang with mattia.
"uh yeah we got paired for a project and well we sort of started talking and catching up." i lied.

she's lying. i know she is. she always starts messing with her ear.
"oh okay."

we arrive at my tias house. i get out of the car holding my melted ice cream in my hand.
"ring the doorbell mija."
"ok ma."
i ring the door bell and i can hear a dog barking.
the door opens.
NO FUCKING WAY. it's alejandro at the front door.
he gives me a look.
"um why are you here!"
"hi mijo!"
ales eyes widen. he was my tias adopted son?!
"come in." he smiles. my mom walks in and before i can enter he stops me.
"you better not tell anything to my mom about the bet."
"or what ale?" i ask.
before he could say anything my mom calls me in.
"oh venus look how big you've gotten! i haven't seen you in so long, i rem-."
i cut her off.
"hi! you look so nice! i love your dress."

"ALE DONT BE RUDE COME SAY HI TO YOUR TIA AND COUSIN!" my tia yelled.
"hi venus. hi tia liz."
"ale can you stop already, with that look you've been giving me for the last couple of days? what did i do to you?"
my mom and my tia look at eachother then me.
"do you guys know eachother?" they both ask.
"he goes to school with me. right ale?"
"yea." he rolls his eyes annoyed.
my tía catches him.
"MIJO!"
"sorry maaaa!"
ale storms off to his room and you can hear music go off. sort of remind me of those tik toks you see when they slam the door and music plays.
"i'm sorry guys, lately ale has been moody."
"it's fine." my mom and i say.
time passes and ale come out of his room and sits next to me on the couch.
"about the bet."
"hm what?"
"did mattia tell-."
i cut ale off.
"i heard you guys. i HEAR everything. like all your fantasy's with alex and that new girl maigen...yeah. and NOW ME!"
"i-well-." alejandro starts stuttering.
"ale i know the way you guys are. no need to explain."
"there is no explaining it's just-."
"just what?" i ask.

alejandro's pov*
"just what?" venus asks.
yeah i know i shouldn't but i'm going to. i know mattia likes her. has been for a long time. the only ones who know are kairi and me.
"well you're not going to believe me but mattia likes you."
"and?"
"he has liked you for so long?"
"sure he has." she replies."
"don't believe me? remember freshman year when mattia came up to you and had a poster and a gift bag with him."
"i think so."
"he was going to ask you out but i he got nervous and once he had the confidence robert had found out you liked kairi and kairi was surprised but mattia was upset with kairi. he had spent so much time and effort on that. he later went on to jenna but it wasn't a good relationship, a toxic one i can tell you." i tell her.
she doesn't say anything.
"mija vámonos."
"bye ale, and thanks i guess. see you?"
"maybe." i reply
she waves at me and we all say our goodbyes, following hugs.
