The funeral didn't last very long. They buried him in his hometown Stardew Valley where most of the townspeople had shown up to say their goodbyes. Despite such a dreadful time, the weather  was perfect, the sun was shining, the birds were chirping, it was almost peaceful. The only thing that could not be helped came from the stream of endless tears rolling down Jake's mothers face.

Jake knew the pain his mother was feeling, after all, the loss he felt was hurting tremendously as well. It was like a blackhole was inside of his chest, destroying all of the happiness he had left.

To make matters even worse he had set up the entire arrangement just so she wouldn't have to. He spent countless nights writing letter after letter to gather his Grandfather's closest friends. Each letter taking a huge tole on Jake. Creating a bigger and bigger hole in his heart with each one.

Thankfully, many of his Grandpa's old friends had arrived. They had been so kind and thoughtful towards him and his family. Mostly by presenting them with gifts, the best being among freshly cooked meals which helped his mother from needing to cook for herself.

They had been nothing but supportive. However, Jake ultimately  knew that he would have to be strong. He needed to be here for his mom, who was not coping very well.

For Jake, the worst part of it all, was knowing the fact he would now never get to say goodbye. He could never thank him for everything that he had done for him. This was the man who had given him the best part of his life and now it was too late.

As jakes eyes began to tear up he quickly wiped his eyes as an older man approached him.

"Jake?" he asked.

"You must be Lewis." Jake extended his arm.

Jake had recognized him from one of Grandpas pictures back in his house.

As the two shook hands Lewis slowly reached into his pocket. Pulling out a brightly sealed envelope.

"Your grandfather wanted you to have this," Lewis said with a hopeful look in his eyes.

Jake stared at the envelope, his mind immediately wondering what his Grandfather had left for him. This had to be a letter saying goodbye he thought. Jake felt petrified. The silence lingered and Lewis quickly took notice how speechless Jake had become.

Breaking the silence, Lewis began talking.

"I visited him you know. Multiple times in fact.Oh how I was devastated when I heard the news about Eric...he was my oldest and closest friend.." his voice trailing off.

"But!" he spoke much louder and chipper now.

" When we were at the hospital all he could ever talk about was how proud he was of the man you had become. In fact you probably don't remember me, and that's okay. After all, you were just a boy when you visited on his farm.

Jake tried to listen but his mind kept drifting to what could be in this envelope...

" He said you were constantly sending money and helping your mother pay bills" Lewis said with a smile forming across his face.

And than like lightning in a storm his smile dropped.

"Jake.."he began softening his voice.

"I know life isn't always how you expect it to go. I know that yo-

"Thank you," Jake interrupted. He was paying attention now and he had heard enough.

He didn't need to hear some stranger to tell him how horrible his life was. Not today. Especially by a friend of his grandpa.
