Kristoff's POV
Today was our last day with Mabel. I was somehow relieved, but I also had to admit I was gonna miss her. And I knew Anna was definitely going to miss her, and that she would be sad when she left, and I didn't want Anna to be sad, but there was nothing I could do about it in this case. The three of us were at the library, when Elsa suddenly came in
—Uh, Mr. Asbjorn will be here to pick up Mabel in 1 or 2 hours, so you have to get her ready
—1 or 2 hours?- Anna asked and Elsa nodded. I could see how Anna turned to look at Mabel sadly
—It's okay Elsa, we'll get her ready- I said and Elsa nodded again and then left the room. Then I turned to Anna- Hey... are... you alright?- I asked
—I am... why wouldn't I be?- she said, but I knew she was just faking
—Look, I know it's hard to leave her just like that after days of taking care of her, but we have to let her go...- I said
—It's not that... it's... it's nothing- she said as she stood up and left the room
I took Mabel in my arms and followed Anna into her room. She started picking up the baby's things
—The diapers are ready, her clothes are ready... what else?- Anna mumbled to herself
—Anna...- I tried getting her attention
—Oh, her toys!- she said pretending not to listen
—Anna...
There was no response
—Anna!- I said frustratedly
—Do you know where her doll is?- she asked, ignoring me again
I walked up to her, took her by the shoulder, and turned her to face me
—Anna!- I said
She just looked up with her eyes and then looked back at me with an annoyed expression
—What?- she quietly said
—What's the matter? Why are you acting like this?
—I told you, it's nothing!- she said kinda angry and tried getting away
—Then why are you avoiding my questions?
She glared at me
—I just... I don't want to talk about it
Her eyes started watering and she sat on the bed
—Hey...- I sat by her side- just tell me what is it, please. I don't like seeing you like this...
She laid her head on my shoulder and looked at me
—It's stupid- she said
—I'm sure it isn't. Just tell me what's bothering you. Please
There was silence for a minute
—Is this about Mabel?- I asked
—Kind of- she said
—You don't want her... to leave?
—It isn't just that... I... I don't want her to think... that we left her or something like that... and I don't want her to... to feel alone at the orphanage... I don't want her to feel what I felt when Elsa shut me out...
I looked at her for a moment
—Okay... first of all, it wasn't stupid, like, at all, okay? And second of all, I know that it's hard, and of course you don't want Mabel to go through what you had to go through as well, but...
—But what?
—But... there's nothing we can do about it...
—Unless...- Anna's face lit up
—Anna, you know we can't adopt her... if that's what you're thinking
—No, of course not... well, that was actually an option, but I guess not. We could go and visit her every once in a while at the orphanage, that way she won't feel alone all the time!
—Sounds like a good idea- I smiled
—You agree?- she asked excitedly
—I do- I nodded
—Thank you! You're the best!- she said as she hugged me
—Of course, princess. I know it's important for you, so... why not?
Just then, Elsa came in
—Mr. Asbjorn is here- she said
—We're coming- Anna said as she stood up and picked Mabel up
We went downstairs and there was Mr. Asbjorn, waiting for us
—Well, hey there! How are you guys doing?- he asked us
—We're fine, thank you- Anna smiled
—So, I have to get Mabel back, there's actually someone interested in adopting her
Anna and I stared in shock
—Adopt her?- Anna asked
—Yep! So I better get going- Mr. Asbjorn said as he took Mabel from Anna's arms
—Um... here are her toys and um... her clothes- Anna said faking a smile
—Thank you- Mr. Asbjorn smiled
Mabel looked at us and started shaking her arms towards us
—Mama! Papa!
—Aw- Elsa said
Anna walked over to Mabel
—Oh sweetheart, we'll... try to visit you, alright? It's going to be okay- she smiled- we'll see you soon, I promise- Anna kissed Mabel's forehead and then walked back to my side. I put an arm around her, trying to comfort her.
After that, Mr. Asbjorn left with Mabel
