But now they had a new dilemma.
Soon enough, the big house loomed up before them. They rode up to the front and got in that way. Neither of them wanted to be noticed by the cook or the groundskeeper, who both resided in the back. Karayan and Miryanna carried Iphnis up a flight of stairs to second level, where all their rooms were and entered a small simple one. Karayan laid Iphnis on the bed, and Miryanna dashed out to get some water and clean rags. She still puzzled to herself how he'd gotten so... uncared for. She wet the rag and began to gently clean his face. She noticed right away the three scars, covered with dried blood. She instantly wondered how they'd got there. He stirred beneath her touch, but didn't wake. After his face and the cuts were satisfactorily cleaned, she gently removed his cloak, his pack, and his boots. Karayan, who had left to care for the horses and now returned, stood behind her, confusion on his face.
"How did he get so... ill cared for?" He asked aloud.
Miryanna shook her head, "I don't know. We'll have to wait for him to wake up to tell us," She replied.
