Geno packed up his things carefully, placing them all in his leather bag exactly where they always went.
"Whatcha doin'?" Dust asked childishly, swinging her legs up and down on his couch.
"Getting ready for work," Geno answered. "Unlike you girls I actually have a job." Dust shrugged.
"Jobs sound boring. Why have a job when you can have fun?"
"Because," Geno answered, picking up his bag with a small grunt. "You need money to pay for that fun."
"No you don't," Dust argued with all the certainty of a ten year old. "You can steal, which is more fun than working."
"It's also more dangerous and more unfair," Geno argued back, keeping his voice calm and patient. Dust blinked.
"But... that's what makes it fun." Geno sighed.
"Nightmare did say she doesn't understand why what she does is wrong," he remembered. Error and Horror came from the kitchen, holding the chocolate bars he'd rationed out to them.
"You going to work?" Horror asked. Geno nodded. "What do you do?"
"I'm a teacher," he answered. Error frowned a little bit.
"I thought you wanted to be a haematologist," she said.
"Dreams change Error. I realised I worked better with kids than with blood." Dust grinned and Horror twitched. "Lust is coming around at some point to check on you. Please don't burn the house down while I'm gone."
"I'll make sure they won't," Nightmare said, appearing from the shadows and glaring at her subordinates. They shrugged back at her.
"I think we can safely say we'll try not to but no promises," Horror said. Geno grimaced but shrugged.
"Ok, I'm heading out. Don't do anything illegal while I'm gone." He shut the door behind him, leaving the girls by themselves.
"When Lust comes over can we have a party?" Dust asked excitedly, looking at Nightmare.
"No," she answered firmly. "You guys can chat but no party. Geno's letting us stay in his house. Let's show at least some basic respect." Dust pouted but gave. Suddenly Horror pointed to the backyard.
"Hey looks like Killer's back," she said, her finger pointing to a tree right near the fence that Killer was climbing down.
"Hey Killer!" Dust called. "Kills! Where'd you go?" Killer, noticing she'd been spotted, came through the back door and sat down on one of the living room arm chairs.
"I just went for a walk," she answered quietly.
"And?" Nightmare asked, raising an eyebrow.
"And nothing happened," she continued calmly. "I just went for a walk. Now I would like to rest, I went pretty far." She stood up and walked to Error's room, shutting the door behind her.
"Is it just me or was she acting weird?" Error asked. Dust shrugged.
"She seemed to be the same to me," she replied. "Cold, emotionless, apathetic, the usual." Nightmare shook her head.
"No, Error's right," She agreed. "Something was off in her tone. She sounded... irritated. She sounded like that before we moved here while we were discussing Dust's contact too, just to a lesser degree." Error shrugged.
"It sounds less like irritation and more like distress," she said. "Or at least irritation born from distress." Horror looked between the two of them.
"So what's going on?" She asked. Nightmare shrugged.
"Don't know. Could be anything," she answered. The group fell into a thoughtful silence, each lost in their thoughts except Dust who was fidgeting. Dust suddenly reached up and poked Horror's cheek.
"I'm hungry," she whined. Horror broke out of her reverie and chuckled.
"Me too, I'm gonna make some brunch."
Lust awoke with a start. He looked out the window to find it was midday and the sun was glaring at him through the curtains. He squinted in the light and slipped out of bed, pulling his shirt on over his messy head. He walked into the dining room slash kitchen area and groaned at the mess. There were pizza orders and beer bottles everywhere.
"Did you forget to clean up?" Lust's roommate asked, appearing at the window soundlessly. Lust jumped and shook his head at him.
"Do you mind not sneaking up on me?" He asked exasperatedly. "I know you're like a fucking ninja but seriously Cross?" Cross grinned.
"I grew up stealing on the streets Lust, it's a habit," he asserted. Lust groaned, turning away from his roommate to make himself a cup of coffee.
"Then break it, it's creepy as shit." Cross chuckled.
"Got any plans today?" He asked. Lust nodded.
"I'm visiting some friends for a bit this afternoon," he answered. "One of them's a really close friend of mine and one of the other's a real hottie. She's got this mystery half mask on too so bonus points." Cross smiled.
"You like mysteries?" He asked. Lust chuckled.
"I like hot mysteries." Cross chuckled with him. "So where were you this morning that required you sneak in through my window instead of the front door like a normal person?" Lust asked, pouring out his coffee. Cross shrugged.
"Just visiting an old friend." Lust raised an eyebrow.
"The same old friend you went to see the other day and almost got punched by?" Cross shook his head.
"No her brother." Lust gave him a suggestive look.
"Then which one is your ex huh?" Cross blushed. "Ah ha! Got you, one of them is your ex. Come on which one is it?" Cross sighed in defeat and sat down on the dirty dining room table.
"The one who tried to punch me," he replied. "We were dating for a year before I fucked it up."
"How'd you fuck it up?" Lust asked. Cross shrugged.
"Not sure."
"Not sure?" He shrugged.
"It's complicated." Lust snorted.
"It's always complicated," he grunted. "This is why I'm a fuck and chuck. One night stands are easier than dating." Cross grimaced. "Don't give me that look."
"It's just..." Cross paused. Lust shook his head, smiling.
"Spit it out Oreo."
"Don't you want some love in your life?" He asked a little hesitantly. Lust rolled his eyes.
"People like me don't get love. We get creeps, stalkers, one night stands, STIs, shame and money. It's called being a slut." He finished his coffee and carelessly threw the plastic mug into the sink. "But hey what's the point in pessimism. I got a flawless body, a hot chick to annoy and possibly seduce and a fun job." Lust shot Cross a grin and winked. "And you have an ex to get back with. Good luck to you sir." Cross couldn't help but grin back but rolled his eyes to make a show of disbelief.
"Alright hold your horses, there are some other circumstances that need to be taken care of before I can even touch her." Lust snorted.
"I think you're full of shit but I gotta go so I'll leave you to your contemplation." He stood up and patted Cross on the back as he walked out. "Enjoy cleaning up." He shut the door behind him as he walked out and Cross's eyes fell on the table. He shook his head at the mess.
"Screw you and your pizza Lust," he muttered.
