"So what shall we do, chief?" Stephan asked as I looked betweenhim and the corpse and the way to my mate. We should head out but thebody was too close to us.

"Put his body where the other earthilings go." I told him as wehad seen some ground that was different colored and tramped down iswhere these earthlings would walk and that would be right.

"You're worried about her, aren't you?" He asked and I looked atSebastian shocked and he gave me a smile, the dead look on his eyesfor the first time really getting a good look at the dead look in hiseyes that I had seen before I had seen from plenty of themurmuration.

Far too many had that dead look in their eyes.

So much so that I didn't even think much about it. Half of theunmated were this dead inside meatless; forever mateless shells."Sebastian," he shook his head and smiled at me.

"I have come to terms of losing my own love. You need to treasurewhat you have-what I will never have-I will take care of this. Go."He smiled at me and I was shocked with how he talked before Iremembered the one time he talked about his family. He was an olderbrother, when he was just about to leave the yoke of being considereda youngling his parents had died leaving behind a hatchling-hislittle brother-who had been sleeping over with a close friend on thatday.

I thanked him though, not wanting to make him think anything of hisbrother. I am an older brother and to think about my little sisters.So instead I just said a quick thank you and flew toward the colony.That is when I heard something that turned my blood into ice.

A scream.

Not just any scream. No. It is Name's scream.

I had heard her scream before but it had never been like this. Mywings began beating faster and harder as I pushed myself to go asfast as I could. Her face flashed again and again in front of my eyesas I prayed to every god that would listen that she be okay.

I hear a lot of squawking and so follow it my heart beating horriblyuntil I see Klarissa holding Theodore. I know that Name, despite justgetting used to me loved him so much. She didn't like to let him outof her sight and I knew she wouldn't let him now so I put my wingscloser to my body so I go even faster, landing I looked around seeingthat Theodore is fine and see Name is behind Christine and Rosaline,Christine had her arms around Name while Rosaline stood in front ofher mate and mine, in an obvious protective attention. Nearby wastheir brood who was watching worriedly. Leonardo was holding Karendown with the help of Lenore and Name was looking at me with thosewide fearful eyes.

There was more fear in those (dark/medium/light) eyes than I had everseen besides the first day when she first saw me and I transformedinto the Beast that first day. I had only seen her close to this whenshe had been trying to go down the next-despite not having wings-andeven then it was not that bad.

What had scared her so badly?

I would destroy whatever put that fear into her.

Everyone was squawking, and I couldn't hear it but all I could seewas Name in Christine's arms, shaking like these orange leaves whenthe wind blows across them. Rosaline, Leonardo and Lenore were allsquawking while Klarissa was whispering and cooing to Theodore tryingto keep him relaxed. He wasn't wailing but tears were gathering inhis eyes.

Whatever it was had not only scared my mate but our sonas well?! In my head Konrad was screaming but I agree fullywith him. "SILENCE!" I screamed and everyone stopped. Theodorelooked shocked before he started to wail and I felt my heart break abit for him but I relax as I see Name-who had stopped shaking,slipped from Christine's arms going to take Theodore from Klarissawho happily gave the hatchling to his mother. She tucked his headunder her chin and started to move over to behind Crhstine andRosaline pulling away all but flinching as I reached out to strokeher hair but she flinched back and I understood one word, the few Ihad picked up.

"no"

Konrad howled in my head and I felt it to but I had more to worryabout, plus whatever was going had obviously shaken her. I had neverhated my inability to understand every word she says as much as I doat this moment.

"Now someone tell me what happened."

"Karen tried to kill Name."

Just like that James gave me control and I glared at all in front ofme, especially Karen. "What?"

Stuff is really getting serious.
