So first off, this movie was helped created by Sam Rami of the Evil dead original and remake. I love them both. Great movies. And I love how his movies are shot. So I was really excited for this movie. I saw it on day one in Imax. I loved Lin Shaye in this movie. I love her as an actress, she takes her roles seriously and really becomes her characters. The man who plays her character, Faith Mathenson's, husband, Frankie Faison who plays William Mathenson, did great as well. I wanted to go into the screen and hug him.

I loved how this movie was shot. It was shot really well, the coloring was spot on. I liked how you was able to see at night without struggling.

The little girl of this movie, Melinda Landers, played by a cute young actress by the name of Zoe Fish, did very well for the limited amount of films she has done, looking at IMDB, she has done six movies, and three extra movies in post production. She played her roll as a dead girl well. She was creepy yet still cute at the same time.

I was excited seeing the original house of the original Grudge movies, and when I saw Kayako I did a little happy dance.

Now sadly.... That is all I liked about that movie.

This movie was all over the place. I hated how they didn't incorporate the original house into the movie other then at the beginning, and once for a millisecond in the middle of the movie. They also only used Kayako once in the movie. At the very beginning.

They created a new family of ghost killers. A woman named Nora who was a care giver at the original Grudge house, her husband Sam, and her six year old daughter. Yes. The Landers.

They time skipped way to many times and you didn't know when it was except at the beginning.

I am a gore girl. I love gore in horror movies. I loved seeing blood and kills in movies. And seeing Sam Rami in the crew of this movie I was soooo looking forward to the blood and gore of the Grudge 2020. But highly disappointed when I walked out of the theater.

You only ever see the after math of kills except three, and two of those deaths are suicides, and one of those suicides is shown in the shadows.

You see four blood scenes, highly disappointing for me.

For John Cho's part... He played a Realtor named Peter Spencer. He has a wife named Nina, who is played by Betty Giplin, From American Gods season 1. Nina is is realtor partner as well as his wife who is pregnant. You meet them at the doctors for tests. Turns out their baby has something wrong with it. They talk about how they are a doing... And I was confused as to what was wrong with the baby. I cant even remember what it was called... and I saw it yesterday!

That's all they talk about. They ask eachother if their ok and if they want to talk about it. She DOES say she was sorry about their baby, and asks Peter if he hates her. Which he tells her he doesn't.

But when they die *Uh OH Spoiler!* all you see is Peter run to Nina with a knife. Then you see her dead bloody body *About damn time there was some blood even if it was a small puddle and some blood spreads. And you see Peters head in a filled bathtub. That's it....

You would think for a Sam Rami *Who made two movies with a tree rape scene and bloodbaths* rated R horror movie, there would be more pizazz to this movie. More umph.

Now lets talk about our lead, Detective Muldoon. You learn she has a son named Burk. They just moved to their place in the movie, and she lost her husband to cancer three months earlier. That's all you know about the two.

The son, while adorable, just seemed bland. He never really showed any emotion. His mother, our lead, was either emotionless, crying, or attempting to be terrified. That's it. I felt nothing for her.  When you cant feel for your lead its quite sad, and makes viewing worse.

I just wanted something to make me cheer for her. But I just didn't care.

Their was plot holes that didn't really need to be in there. Their was parts in the trailer that was missing in the movie, parts that could've made it a bit better.

The ending was boring and... Though the credits were playing the movie acted as if something was going to happen.... But don't worry nothing happens. when you see the start of the credits go ahead and stop it, if you even watch this.

Total Thought

So as you could tell I was HIGHLY disappointed in this movie. I went in with great excitement and high hopes, but left frustrated. This movie proves that horror movies in January are awful. To much time skipping and people wanting to start a new story within the same story which made it confusing. And not enough kills and blood for a rated R horror movie.

I honestly rather watch a horrible b movie cause at least then I would see kills and blood that should be in a rated r horror movie.

I rate this movie 2/5. The only reason it even gets a 2 is the way it was shot, and Lin Shaye's performance.
