I LOVE this movie. It's one of my go to movies that I like to have on when im bored or something. It even has my favorite actress in it from when she was a child. And even if Emily Browning WASNT in this, I would've still loved this movie, but she makes it great.
She is so creepy yet innocent as the pure ghost girl Kate Harwood. You honestly want to jump into the screen and hug her. She had been threw so much on that boat, just to die the way she did.
The entire crew seemed to be great friends in the movie, and when someone dies they are all heart broken. Even the captain breaks his sobriety and starts drinking in heartbreak. You can tell they all care for each other.
The ship is a giant creepy ship and the background of the ship is well known in the movie.
The music in the movie is awesome. In fact I have two of the songs on all my Spotify playlists. Their awesome.
The opening to this movie is shocking and has to be my favorite horror movie openings. It starts so sweet and even romantic. but in a blink of an eye shit hits the roof.
The comedy in this movie isn't a lot and is at the right moments in the movie so you're not rolling your eyes at the jokes at the wrong times.
Our lead played by Julianna is Epps, she is the only girl of the crew who keeps the guy, Jack Ferryman *played by Desmond* under her grasp as they explore the ship. She is like a daughter to the crews captain and she isn't one to be fucked with.
I hate strong females who are weak in the beginning and suddenly become strong at the end. No way. I like a strong female lead threw the whole movie. And Epps is that strong lead, yet she shows emotion to the loss of others whom she thought of as family.
Now this movie is from 2002 so this is an older movies then the previous movies I've posted reviews on. So the editing isn't as great to today standards but I still think they did a fantastic job.
Now I know a lot of people will be confused by the beginning. With everyone around Kate and the ships captain, cut in half, how was Kate spared and how did the captain only get his head cut in half?
If you look very carefully, you can see she is bent over with the captain over her, protecting her and saving her from getting sliced in half.
I loved Jack. He seems so meek and quiet threw the movie, until you learn he is a demon who is responsible for all the deaths in this movie. The one who is keeping and controlling all the impure and marked souls on the ship. Other then Kate, who is unmarked.
Dislikes
Now I said I like Jack. But I think people will figure that he is the bad guy. But I guess that's ok. I still love this movie!
There isn't much I DONT like about this movie honestly. I'm sure a lot of people aren't going to like this movie. But I know a lot of people DO like this, and I am one of them.
Kills
My favorite kill is a big one. Its the very first one. The peaceful way it starts and then the quickness of the snapping of the wire. The quick slice of the dancing guests. Then the silence and wait. As if, did that really happen? Its a great way to start a kill count
My least favorite kill would be Dodge's. You don't know how he dies. You see him walk away after shooting Jack, then Jack morphs into him and after reveling himself to Epps, he tells her Dodge is dead and you don't see a body, so you don't really know how he dies. And I HATE that.
