Ghosts

Steve had searched everywhere he could possibly think of even though everywhere wasn't enough. His friend didn't know him, and had no reason to trust him.

Steve was headed to the last place on his list. He had to try even though he knew that the smithsonian would be a long shot.
It was near closing when Steve walked in. There were a few stragglers and one man bundled up from head to toe. He knew it was Bucky. Steve stood by the entrance watching his old friend read his exhibit. What better place to learn about your past, right? Anyways, Steve walked up behind his friend after the remaining people left, "this place sure is cool." Bucky didn't say anything. "I," Steve looked up to the picture, "that man was like a brother to him. It looks like they were super close," said Steve. "Mhm," said bucky. Steve looked around, "well looks like there closing. I'll see you around," Steve left.

Bucky stood there and placed a hand on his exhibit. he then closed his eyes and lowereed his head.

==- START FLASHBACK -==
Bucky smiled at the comment his friend made and then helped his friend off the floor. When Steve started shaking from the cold Bucky knew he had to get his friend warm so he took him to his bedroom and got him some dry clothes and blankets then got Steve into the bed.

"Get warm, I'll be in my room if you need me"

"You can stay"

"Are you sure"

"Please stay"

Steve moved over and let Bucky climb in the bed. At first there was an awkward silence then Bucky turned to Steve and kissed him again. This time it went beyond a kiss. This time was much different.

Bucky opened his eyes and ran out after Steve only to find him sitting on a bench in front of the smithsonian. "by the looks of things," steve looked over his shoulder at bucky, "you remembered something." bucky didnt say a word, he just nodded his head then went and joined steve. "do you have any questions?" bucky nodded his head, "ok. ask away." steve looked at his friend. bucky took a deep breath, "what happened to me?" steve got wide eyed. he didnt know how to answer his friend but still tried to do so, " well, lets start with the small things. whats the last thing you remember?"

bucky's thoughts started to race through his head, "you and i... i mean." steve laughed a little, "you were the first person i had ever been with. that night we made love." steve watched bucky's cheeks get red before he continued, "you shipped out days later. not long after i became captain america and we formed the howoling commandos. one mission went horribly wrong and you were knocked out of a train. i couldnt," steve looked down to the gorund, "i could save you."

bucky placed his metal hand on steves shoulder, "you dont have to continue." steve looked over to his friend, "i have to," steve sat back up then continued, "you fell to your supposed death. HYDRA found you and gave you that. they did horrible things to you," steve took a deep breath, "while i lay frozen in the ice, the world moved on, and you moved with it. i'm sorry."

bucky gave steve's shoulder a light squeeze, "dont worry. you found me, like you promised." the two stood up and looked at each other. steve walked over to his motor cycle, "do you have a place to stay?" bucky shook his head before steve continued, "come on. i have a place you can stay at. its small, but it should do till we find you something." bucky took a step back then stopped, "i... i cant." steve placed his helmet on, "buck, your my friend. im not going to leave you here now that i know your alive. come on," steve patted on the seat behind him. bucky smiled then hurried and got on the bike before steve took off to his tiny appartment.

--- at appartment ---

steve just shut the door and pulled out his cell phone, "i have to make a call home." steve walked into the kitchen and called tony.

--= PHONE CALL=--

"hey," steve took a deep breath, "don't get mad, ok?"

steve knew tony was going to be furious when steve told him, "what is it?"

steve said, "i found him, and i brought him to the appartment. He needed a place to stay."

"oh, ok" steve knew tony was mad. it was hard not to tell, "will you be home soon?"

steve smiled, "i should be home in the next two hours or so. i'm going to get him settled in then i'm going to pick up a bite to eat before i come home."

tony said, "steve, you've been gone for 6 weeks. hurry home. i miss you."

"and i miss you tony. God i miss you. when i get home you and i are staying in our room for two days, minimum," steve could hear tony laugh, "i've got to go. i'll see you soon."

tony said, "i love you."

steve smiled, "i love you too."

steve hung up the phone then walked over to bucky who was sitting on the couch looking at the television, "i'm happy for you." steve sat down, "sorry you found out like that. i wanted you to meet him in person." bucky leaned back against the couch, "is he good to you steve?" steve nodded his head, "ya. he's good. we got married a few years back and have two beautiful kids. i want them to meet there uncle Bucky once we get everything settled." bucky looked at steve, "you honestly think i can have a normal life." steve smiled, "ya. i do," he stood up, "come on. lets get you cleaned up. you look like you could use a hair cut. bucky laughed then followed steve to the bathroom.

Steve stood at the entrance of his apartment, "buck, you souls be fine on food till the end of the week. I'll stop by then to take you shopping with me." Bucky didn't get from the couch, "I might not be here when you get back. Steve thanks, but I can get by on my own." Steve walked to the back of the couch then leaned down and placed his hand in Bucky's shoulder, "the thing is, you don't have to. I'm with you till the end of the line, pal," Steve smiled. Bucky smiled back at his friend then said, "go. I'll be fine. Go be with your kids."

Steve took a few steps back, "I'll bring them by one time," Steve smiled one more time before turning around and leaving.
