Marcus is acting weird today. We are walking to school and I thought everything was normal. But it's clearly not. He is tensed and when I touch him, he acts like I've gave him an electric shock. I didn't!
I am telling him about my history assessment and how much I revised but I could tell he wasn't listening.
"Marky?" I ask gently, tapping him on the shoulder.
He jumps out of his skin. He looks at me, smilies weakly and looks away quickly, trying to deny eye contact.
"Why are you so scared?" I laugh. "Your so weird Marky!"
He stops, turns to look at me and says, "do you know what's weird? How I'm in love with you and you never believe me. How you act like friends when every time I see you, I go weird. Yeah, Niomi, I'm in love with you. I want you to be my girlfriend. But I don't think you feel that way anymore because you never let me say it before. That's why."
"Huh?" I gasp. I can't process what he said. Well, of course I can. But that doesn't mean I've taken it well. I can't believe it. It's true though. I never listened and I thought he was lying.
"I'm sorry" he says and he walks away, leaving me confused and wishing I'd said anything but huh.
