It has been a few days since Marcus and I have talked. He's now dating the waitress, Jazz. I hate being like this. I like Marcus a lot, I shouldn't have hurt myself even more. It's like I'm my worst enemy. And schools today. Marcus isn't in because he tells me that he sometimes drops school days.
Izzy is back and when we walk to school, I tell her all about Marcus. She is so excited until I tell her about Jazz.
"Ugh, Niomi! You gotta stop! Your hurting yourself!" Izzy moans, sitting on the bench. "We are going to un friend zone the friend zone you did."
"Izzy, school starts in five minutes! I have period 1 geography!" I say nervously, looking around.
Izzy laughs. "I have science, I'm not complaining. Now Niomi, sit down and we need to talk."
Slowly, I sit next to her, wriggling uncomfortably. I hate missing school. I once went into school ill because I hate missing it. I got sent home, and I was really annoyed at the nurse for sending me home.
"You like Marcus. But he's popular. And that can ruin everything" Izzy confirms, staring at me. I'm confused now. And I'm not really concentrating because I can't face being late for school. It would be my first time!
"How can Marcus ruin everything if he's popular?" I ask, getting up. "Cmon, we have to go to school! I'm not getting into trouble for your benefit!"
"Alright already!" Izzy jumps up with her bag and starts walking. I chase after her as Izzy is fast.
"Your like me, your not popular. I mean, jeez, we only have each other. We aren't seen at school as beautiful. People think we are beautiful, but because we are unpopular, they don't see the point of talking to us. And that's where Marcus comes in. He's popular. All his mates will see him with you and look down at him, making him lose his popularity. He's not going to risk that for some girl, who loves him. He's going to lose you, and this time, he won't be coming back."
Izzy is right.
Marcus isn't right.
