Alex woke up slowly, smiling as she felt the warm sun graze her skin. She threw the blankets off herself and slipped out of her room despite the early time. She began to subconsciously make her way to Kaiden's bedroom, passing by D.C, Jordan, Bear and Declan's rooms on the way.
The six friends shared a large flat, fitted with six bedrooms, a kitchen, a living and dining room and several bathrooms. They all had their own jobs - Bear worked as a Chemistry teacher and Fitzy's apprentice, Jordan, Kaiden and Alex worked as Swords, Declan had taken Jaxons place as the royal advisory and Dix had become a helper at the Akarnae Stables.
Once Alex reached Kaiden's room she pushed the door open and was met with the sight of Kaiden reading a book with what looked like intense concentration. As if sensing her presence, he looked up and put the book down, grinning widely at her.
"Good morning," Alex sang, clearly in a good mood. "I'm up, the sun's up, and you're up!"
Kaiden's grin vanished. "Alex, did you have too many dillyberry cookies before you came? You are acting a bit - um, well, strange."
Alex shook her head in exasperation. "Can't I have a little bit of fun? I'm in a good mood, that's all. Yeesh."
Kaiden grinned again. "Well, I'm glad to hear it. I think Dix has been wanting to go shopping with you for some time, but wasn't sure if you wanted to. If you're feeling better, that is, how do you feel about going today?" (A/N I know it's a bit stupid, but I just made it so all Warden's got holidays, even though they probably shouldn't. :) )
Alex broke into a grin. "Sounds good. I'll just go and get her."
Alex walked off, shutting the door silently after her. As soon as she reached Dix's room, she rapped on it quickly and entered, not waiting for a response. She walked in and saw Dix on a sofa in the corner, surrounded by a large stack of books. Dix had one book in her hand and her eyes were scanning the pages so fast it was dizzying.
Alex walked up to the stack of books, tilting her head so she could read some of the titles. "Nice choice of book," Alex commented abruptly.
Dix's head snapped up, so fast that Alex was scared her neck would snap. "Alex? What are you doing here?"
Alex sighed. "I just wanted to say sorry for being so difficult - and that I really want to spend some time with you. Shopping, maybe? Or whatever you want to do I wouldn't really -"
She was cut off by her friend hurtling toward her at top speed. Alex melted in the hug and smiled, the smile fully reaching her eyes.
Dix smiled. "I missed you so, so - Did you just hear that?"
Alex frowned. "Hear what, Dix?"
And then Alex heard it.
It was a scream. Coming from Kaiden's bedroom.
