Alex's head whipped around, knowing full well who was behind her. She cringed, knowing she had done it this time. Even if he had trusted her a little bit before this, she knew that the trust would now vanish. She could feel guilt setting in, but she tried to ignore it. She pivoted around to fully face Jay, knowing that he was most likely about to flip.
"Wow. I really thought I could trust you and that maybe, just maybe, I'd made a mistake in reading you, Alexandra. Do you know, Alexandra, how furious this makes me?"
Alex flinched, the guilt too much for her to take.
Jay saw the small flinch and took a step forward, enjoying the power he felt. A smirk danced on his lips.
Alex's bravery was all gone now. She felt a wave of panic set in and began to sway dangerously on her feet. She felt two strong hands grip her shoulders, squeezing them to almost reassure her. But she couldn't calm down.
Jay took another step forward.
Alex pushed herself and Kaiden a step back.
Another step forward.
Another step back.
Again.
And again.
Fear was starting to overrule her common sense, and her thoughts felt blurred. There was only one thought, however, that was rushing through her head, clear as day.
She had to get Kaiden out of here. Now.
Alex's fear began to rise as the effects of the dillyberry juice Jay had given her begun to wear off.
She was scared.
She wanted to throw up and run away and pass out all at the same time.
She knew that Kaiden could sense her fear and her failing thoughts. What she didn't expect, however, was what he did next.
He pulled out a Stabiliser from behind him, one she could only see from the corner of her eye and shot Jay right in the middle of his chest.
"RUN!" Kaiden yelled, snapping Alex out of her stupor.
He grabbed her hand tightly and yanked her after him. She ran along with him, following where he was going, since she had no idea whatsoever as to where the exit or entry were. Alex could already hear the recovered Jay's footsteps pounding after them.
Thankfully, Kaiden knew where he was going and lead her outside. Once they were outside and they couldn't hear Jay's footsteps anymore, Alex collapsed on the ground. She didn't know what he had done to her, since even her Meyarin senses didn't seem to be helping her case.
Kaiden crouched down next her, silent as she tried to even her breaths.
Alex finally looked up at him, feeling nothing but emptiness. The past few weeks had gone so well and she had been feeling so much happier, but it felt as if what had happened with Jay had just brought her right back to square one. "Y-You got the stabaliser?" Alex asked, suddenly remembering how they had gotten out.
Kaiden's lip twitched slightly. "Didn't I tell you I'd give you a repeat performance?"
A/N Okay, so, I was sort of thinking of doing the next chapter from Kaiden's perspective because so far it's only been Alex's. Any thoughts? Feel free to tell me :)
