"Baba."
Harry stirred in his deep sleep.
"Baba, it's smelly."
Harry still made no effort to move or to awaken from his slumber.
"Baba, please it's smelly!" Luke's voice was full of desperation, forcefully pulling his father's long sleeved winter pyjama teeshirt. It finally awoke Harry, causing him to jolt upright, full of alert.
Harry noticed to burning smell almost instantly, looking down at his son and scooped him up in his arms as if he was a feather. Harry rushed to the wardrobe in his bedroom and grabbed a massive backpack out. In consisted on all the essentials needed if there was any problems in the house. Harry was always prepared for anything.
"NIALL WAKE UP." Harry banged on Niall's bedroom door, Niall coming out a few seconds later full equipped with his backpack too but looking ever so tired.
"What about Uncle Nath?" Luke gasped remembering about his apparent role model.
Nathan was in his bedroom, confused on what to do. He didn't have a safety backpack. Instead his stuffed his iPhone and a charger in his hoodie pocket and headed out to the landing to meet his fellow house mates. Harry hatched a plan that the quickest and safest exit would be to climb onto the roof of the house and jump into the neighbour's garden. They would then scream and shout for help, hopefully awakening the whole neighbourhood.
It worked.
***"Tell me if you feel any pain or ouchies, okay?." Dr Dawson observed Luke's reactions to areas of his skin that she touched to see if any damage was done to the four year old due to the fire. Just like his father and other guardians there was none. In fact the doctors were impressed with how well organised the 'family' were. Police were investigating further into the fire. An apparent arson attack. "You've been a very good boy. You may go over to your daddy now." Luke doesn't have to be told twice. He's gone.
Harry places his son on his lap, allowing Luke to play with his large fingers through boredom.
"Right, so all your tests are back and there is absolutely no internal injuries nor external injuries. You all performed very well, with no burns. In your wait for the news from the police I recommend you go to the children's ward where they are serving breakfast and little Luke can play with the toys there." Dr Dawson informs the group who do what they're told without any other further comments. It's been silence for a while between them all. A very uncomfortable one.
Is it due to shock?
Nathan is shaking slightly, his plans all backfired on him didn't it? He can't leave now. He can't go knowing the family he is leaving behind is in suffering.
Harry is holding Luke close to his chest, thankful that they were both alive. Imagine if something had happened to either one of each other, the other wouldn't function again without the other. Luke would live without a mother and a father, and Harry would probably be in a very dark and unhappy hole of depression that no matter how many therapy sessions he would attend, nothing would make him happy again. He would have lost his wife and the only thing that was a reminder of his wife. His only child. There would be no way he would have any of child if something happened to Luke. There would be no girl that Harry would love as much as Reagan, and you can't really have a biological child with if your gay.
Nathan then looks over at Niall who is huddled in a ball with his face on his knees. It was a stressful time for everyone, Nathan would just be adding to that stress if he suddenly left.
