I sat quietly and nervously near the center of the long table. I stared at the two girls. December and Kalila they had said. I first looked at December. She was a thin, small, fragile looking girl. Shoulder length blond hair, and piercing blue eyes. She looked nervous, but her eyes portrayed determination. I shifted my gaze to Kalila. She was a tall, skinny girl with deep blue eyes and faded blond hair that went down to her shoulder blades. It was dyed a crimson red at the tips. The two girls. I had heard stories about them. They were only a little younger than me. Maybe a year or so.

Suddenly I jerked up my head, hearing my name. Everyone was staring at me. I bit my lip and blushed. "Huh?" I said sheepishly. December snorted and Kalila looked at her lap. Elyjah rolled his eyes.

"I said, why don't you introduce yourself?" Elyjah gestured for me to stand.

I nervously stood, and waved shyly.

"Uh...hi. I'm Atticus. You can call me Tiki. I'm one of the staff members on the survival team. I'll be helping out with battle training, as well as self defense."

And with that I sat down.

There was an awkward silence, as if no one knew whether to clap or continue on. Eventually Elyjah cleared his throat.

"Atticus-"

"Tiki" I butted in.

Elyjah gave me a pained look. "Tiki... will be training December and Kalila in the art of battle and self defense."

I gave a small nod. I thumbed the small ring I wore on my finger. A carving of a dragonfly, cut into whalebone. I looked back up.

Destiny turned to me. "What about my powers?" She asked nervously. "Who will teach me to use those?"

Elyjah raised his eyebrows at me. I chewed the inside of my lip. I focused on the small tree in the back of the room. I willed it to die. And it did. It shriveled up, dry and yellow. December stared at me in shock. I stood up from my chair, and walked over to the dead plant. I touched it lightly with my finger. And it revived. Lush, and green, healthier than ever before. I sat down again. Kalila whispered something in December's ear. She nodded. She stared at the plant. And a small flower grew from the top. I smiled.

"You," I said. "You will be fun to teach"
