Damn! Damn! Damn! This was by far the worst business trip ever, Derek thought.
Having driven for eight hours straight Derek felt totally exhausted. He had a back ache from driving all night and his eyes hurt like hell. After reaching the mainland and Derek had to take the ferry to reach the Stone Isle. He figured transporting his convertible to the island would be impossible. So he decided to book a rental once he reached Stone Isle. Since it was a Sunday, the ferry was going to run late he was informed. So he found the nearest restaurant to freshen up and get himself some breakfast. Once seated at the table, the waitress came up to him to take his order.
"Some coffee please.....and bacon with eggs" he ordered. "Sure," the waitress said. " Anything else?"
He looked up at her. She was pretty with brown eyes and had a mischievous smile. "Thanks...that would be all."
"Alright then. Coffee, bacon and eggs coming right up."
She was just about to leave when Derek stopped her. " Excuse me...Hi I'm Derek, from New York. And you are?" he asked. "Hi Derek. I'm Ginny and nice to meet you" she smiled.
"Nice to meet you too Ginny. Actually I'm new to this place and on my way to Stone Isle. Just waiting for the ferry to come by. I was wondering if you could tell me something about the place."
"Oh...You here on vacation?" Ginny asked.
Derek decided against telling her the truth. "Yea...kind of" he replied.
"Well you are actually late sweetheart. The peak season is almost over. That's when tourist swarm over to Stone Isle. But on the other hand you would definitely get good rates on the lodgings" she said.
"Oh that's a shame! But I still would love to see the place. A couple friends of mine had been to Stone Isle recently and couldn't stop talking about it. So I thought of checking the place out myself. Sort of give myself a break from work I guess" Derek said giving her his most charming smile. It worked, she smiled.
"Oh so you a city boy I see. You might find Stone Isle a bit different then I suppose. Its peaceful and quite there. More like the rural, medieval England one could say." In other words 'boring' he thought to himself.
"I wanted to start with finding a motel first. Also,if you could let me know where I could rent a vehicle then that would be great" he said. "Oh I see. A cousin of mine runs a rental around here so I could set you up. As far as the motel is concerned I would suggest "The Palm Inn" for you. A lot of businessmen stay there because Palm Inn is as flashy as it gets here. But if you need a more warm and homely environment then you should try my friend's inn. Its called "The Stonehedge".
Derek stiffened. Stonehedge! The sole reason he had come this far from civilisation into this godforsaken place! What he needed was a plan. He gave himself two days to change the old lady's mind. He would make her an offer she won't refuse. A nice little sum of money in the old lady's bank account to spend the rest of her days contently. Afterall running an inn at this age would definitely be tough on her. And Derek was going to take advantage of that fact to change the oldie's mind into selling the inn to him.
Derek was not this successful in life for nothing. He always played to win. Recognising an opponent's weakness and using it to his advantage was something he was extremely good at. His business adversaries were right to fear him because once Derek Morgan decides something as his he would use whatever means necessary to attain it. His ruthless streak is why he was so ahead and successful when compared to his contemporaries.
Remembering he had an audience,he looked up at Ginny "Thank you Ginny. I will definitely look it up and I do appreciate your help." She smiled and left to get him his breakfast.
By the time his breakfast was served, he had called Ginny's cousin arranging for his vehicle in Stone Isle. Her cousin had promised the car would be waiting at the bay for Derek as soon as he reached Stone Isle. He then placed a call to his secretary Sophie to get the daily updates of the ongoings and to make sure everything was running smoothly in his abscence.
"Don't worry sweetheart. I've got you covered. You stay strong on your mission impossible." she laughed.
"Well let's just see who will be laughing when I finally close this deal honey."
After the call he finished his breakfast and left a generous tip for Ginny who blew him a kiss at him as he was making his way out of the restaurant.
"Mission impossible. Ha! " he said to himself.
