He understood her signs. Even though it hurt, he understood. Dev had to face reality. What he did was wrong. She was happily married and he had to respect that. There was nothing he could change about that.
"Sounds like a wonderful plan!" He lied. He faked a smile and continued to drive. Another awkard silence echoed through the car. Eventually they reached their destination. Luckily it saved them from the awkard atmosphere. Pari thanked him for the ride and started heading towards her home, but Dev insisted on dropping her off at the door. Pari didn't know why, but she had a queasy feeling in her stomach. Maybe she was just stressing over nothing. They went to the door and Pari looked for her key in her bag.
"You don't have to wait for me to go in, you can go home." She said and fiddled around to find her key.
Dev didn't say anything. He just wanted to make sure she went inside safely. Because if something had happened to her, he was the one to blame and he simply couldn't bare the thought of something happening to her.
Finally Pari found her key and opened the door. Her key fell down onto the ground out of fear. Pari didn't except to be greeted with him. Kabir had returned, but why? He was supposed to come back by tomorrow! Her head started spinning. She was sure war was about to break out. Pari tried to take deep and calm breaths.
"K-kabir you're back home! What a lovely surprise." Pari stuttered. She hoped no one could hear the fear in her voice. Pari had to quickly come up with a lie. Kabir would blow up, she as aware of that, she just didn't want him to blow up in front of Dev.
"I could say the same, what do I owe the pleasure to?" Kabir said directing it towards Dev. Kabir was behaving way too calm. Pari feared her life, this wasn't a good sign. She just should've listened to her unwell feeling and send him away when she had the chance to!
"Well I was just.." Pari quickly interrupted and said.
"I was going to get some dinner when my car broke down, luckily Dev was driving by and found me on the middle of the street and offered me to drive me home." She prayed that Dev would not question her lie and would just play along. Her life depended on him.
"Yes indeed.. well you owe me gas money!" Dev jokingly said. He was visibly confused, but he just played along. Pari would have her reasons, so he would just ask her about it another day.
"I better get going now, was nice seeing you both." Dev said and left.Pari wanted him to stay so badly to protect her. But she had to face what was coming now all alone. Kabir slammed the door when Dev was out of sight.
"Care to explain?" He yelled at her.
"I-.. what do you mean?" She struggled to say. Kabir pushed her against the wall and held her by her neck.
"Listen, don't play dumb with me! Him you, late at night, out! Do you really think I'm that dumb?" He kept yelling.
Pari struggled to breathe. She didn't want to show any signs of weakness, but she couldn't help it. She began to cry. Pari thought he would kill her right on this spot.
"I.. I can't breath!" Pari said while gasping for air.
This time she would be lying if she denied any of his accusations. But did she have a different choice? He was be capable of killing her right on the spot if he found out.
"Didn't I say no strange man? You ungrateful little bitch went out and cheated on me, now you will pay the consequences!"
"I didn't cheat!" Pari blurted.Pari was shivering. She was scared to death. She didn't know what Kabir would do to her, since he seemed even angrier than last time.
"How come if you didn't you're so scared then?" Kabir asked angrily.
It was obvious Pari was rather afraid of him than the truth.
"I'm not!" Pari's voice failed to say.
"Enough, I gave you a chance to tell me the truth, but apparently missy wants to have it her way!" Kabir said and dragged her into the kitchen. Now not only her neck area was bruised, but also her wrist. Pari tried to get out of his grip and run away, but failed. He was just stronger than her. Pari cried. She wished someone would come for the rescue and save her from this living hell! Pari's eyes grew big when she saw Kabir dragging her towards the tea kettle.
"Kabir what are you doing?!"
"Lucky for you I just made some tea? Want some?" He devilishly grinned.
Kabir had went mad. Now she was sure of that. He turned into a maniac and made her his victim. Pari tried to get away even harder now.
"Kabir stop it, you're crazy! I didn't do anything wrong, now let me go!" She cried. But Kabir just wouldn't listen.
He did have a right to be angry at her for betraying him, but not this angry. He didn't have any right on hurting her. He didn't even know she betrayed him.
"Now crazy am I? Oh well. That happens when your so beloved wife cheats on you!" He started yelling again. He picked up the tea kettle from the stove and poured the hot tea all over Pari's arm. Pari flinched, the pain was unbearable. She screamed in pain. Pari finally got free from his grip and fell onto the ground.
"Y-you're a maniac!" Pari somehow managed to say.
"Next time you better think before going out and cheat!" Kabir said and squeezed her burned arm hardly.
He pushed her against the cabinet and left her behind. Pari was in immense pain. She didn't know what to do anymore. She tried to cool her burn with cold water, but it didn't do anything. The pain she felt in her heart was bigger than the pain from the burn..
