A loud banging at the front door stopped Pari in her tracks.
"Who is trying to break down my door" Dev growled getting up.
"No Dev don't open the door I have a bad feeling." Pari felt nauseous - she couldn't explain why.
"What do you mean? You stay here I'll quickly check and be back." He left the room before she could answer. She waited anxiously trying to calm herself down - what was she freaking out about?"Let me in, I know she's in there." Kabir's voice echoed through the apartment and hit Pari like a bolt of lightning. She closed her eyes and tried to control her breathing - but his voice rang through her mind and she felt dizzy.
"What are you doing Kabir?" She heard Dev asking patiently.
"Don't play with me fool! I have a gun and if Pari doesn't come out now and come home with me I will shoot." He sounded serious and Pari knew how vicious Kabir could be - he wasn't one to fool around.
She stood up and tried to steady herself but she found herself shaking uncontrollably - she was terrified. She didn't want Kabir to hurt Dev."Put the gun away or I'll call the police." Dev said firmly. He sounded calm however Pari felt the edge in his voice - he was losing his temper. Trying to compose herself she walked out of the room and toward the front door.
"I knew it! You little slut!! Of course you're here with this bastard." Kabir tried to push past Dev toward Pari and she backed up a little - she didn't want to go back home with him. She knew she would never come out of that trip a live.
"How dare you insult her like that!" Dev said putting a hand on Kabir's chest and blocking his path toward Pari. "Learn how to speak like a civilised human!"
"Are you telling me how to speak to my wife?" Kabir grabbed Dev's collar and pulled out a gun out.
"No no no Kabir." Pari ran toward the two men gesturing for Kabir to take the gun away from Dev. "I'll come with you." She couldn't risk Dev's life - not because of her.
"Good!" Kabir let go of Dev's shirt and grabbed Pari roughly by the arm and started pulling.
"Oh no no" Dev said holding Pari back behind him. "You're not taking her anywhere."
Kabir pulled the gun up again and pointed it at Dev's chest.
"Dev it's okay I'm going." Pari said pushing past Dev and try to get out the front door with Kabir.
"That's right! Don't get in the middle of a married couples life!" Kabir said looking back at Dev who stood there gaping at Pari trying to leave with this maniac. Kabir lowered the gun and proceeded to walk out.
Dev didn't know what to do - he didn't want to get between them but he also couldn't not let Kabir take Pari. He was slowly starting to understand where Pari May have been getting her bruises from. It enraged him to think that Kabir was treating Pari that way - but with what he was doing now it didn't surprise Dev."I won't let you go like this Pari. I know I shouldn't get between a married couple but I can't in all good consciousness let this happen. I will call the police if you go with this prick." He reached for his phone but from the corner of his eye he saw Kabir extending the gun again. Before Dev could react he heard shots being fired and instinctively flinched in anticipation of pain. But in a flash Dev was pushed aside and he didn't feel the pain he expected. Instead he watched as Pari toppled over clutching her stomach as blood flowed freely from between her fingers.
She had taken a bullet for him! Dev dropped to the floor and cradled Pari in his arms. Kabir was no where in sight - having run out as soon as the shot was fired.
Dev took his shirt off hastily and pushed it against her wound to stop the bleeding. She gasped in pain and it broke his heart to lay in witness to this."Pari shhhh just take deep breaths in okay? I'm calling the ambulance."
She could barely hear him, he was fading out - or was she? She blinked a couple of times and saw black.
