"Isn't that great news?!" Asked my mom all cheery.
"But my classes don't end for another month!!!" Shaista started freaking out.
"Don't worry dear, said my dad calmly. I only start in January. So we will be moving in your December holidays."
"Alhamdulillaah, exclaimed Shaista. I can finish this term...and I don't have to worry about packing during exams. Shukr!"
"I guess I'll have to give a notice at work for leaving then."said Nadir very reluctantly. That guy really liked his job. Well he got along with his colleagues, can't blame him. And he often got chosen to make the tough contracts and deals with business partners.
" I should join you." I chimed in. "I'll let the school know they should start looking for a new teacher...well secretary." I wanted to laugh but it made me feel sad that soon I won't be seeing these beautiful angels anymore.
"O c'mon you guys. Don't make it sound so bad. There's lots of khayr in it. And it will be a nice experience!" My dad tried to console.
Technically this is a good thing.
"And guess what? Dad's company is giving us the house and a car. And is paying for some of our expenses." My mom's words brought a smile to all our faces. Because we all know when dad's company is giving, then it's a treat indeed.
In Grade Five, we had to move to California for dad's work, for about 5 months. Oh how I remember those months vividly! We had an apartment across from the beach. It wasn't beach front but alhamdulillaah Nadhir would promise my mom to look after Shaista and me and would take us to the beach every day after school. And he was given a white Dodge. He was offered a driver but mom prefered dad driving.
Oh and how I had missed Ziyaad! He would email me every day and we would chat at night. Of course at that time, we would talk about silly tv shows and how's my new school and my new classmates mostly. And of course the beach! I never knew how much he meant to me back then.
I looked at my plate, and I was at my last bite. Apparently I zoned out while reminiscing. I could hear them discussing the trip and how next year will be.
I caught Shaista's eyes and she smiled at me. My sister knows how I can wander in my thoughts!
We finished up with dinner and with all that talk, we were all excited about the trip now.
Which reminds me of a hadeeth (saying) of the prophet saw :"...your ears are a funnel to your heart." So whatever you hear and talk about really affects you. And soon enough, you'll grow a liking for that.

I called out to mom on my way to my room, "wake me up for fajr InshaaAllaah. Good night!"
It feels so great being done with Esha. I changed into my favorite PJ pants and threw a t-shirt over. Clothing plays an important role in our lives, yet many of us haven't realized its value. Wearing comfy clothes makes you feel better when you're feeling down. And nice clothes brightens your day when it's rainy. And fancy clothes makes one feel important and definitely boost one's self esteem.
Anyways,I lied in bed and texted Sumayya. I asked the normal how was her day, how's everything, and then asked what are her plans for the weekend. She said she had some stuff to sort out on Saturday morning but then she's not doing much afterwards.
"Wanna meet up for coffee and check out the mall?" I typed.
"Sure thing lovely. Gotta catch up for sure InshaaAllaah." Her reply came almost instantly.
I typed back just as fast: "Been too long for sure. JazaakAllaah. Honestly I need a break."
"Anytime dear! Good nyt"
"See you soon. Sweet dreams."
I got up to turn off my light and I saw the book of du'as. There was Shaista's handwriting, on a Post It stuck on it:
Hey sis, on page 31 is the du'a seeking help from Allaah at the time of difficulties. And on page 58 is the Istikhaara one- you know when you ask Allaah to guide you to make the right choices.
Gud nyt. Luv Ya alwz, Shau.I read them both and as my heart felt lighter, my body fell in a deep slumber.
